Generally the paint is about shot, there are some areas on the bed sides where the clear coat peels off with just a touch. Both front fenders have scrapes the length of them,, from when dad was pulling in the garage more by feel than by sight. The passenger side cab has a nice wallop in it,, remanents of my son's formative years.. but its is really solid, no rust,, |

found an 87 D-150 at the pic a part that had a real solid frame mounted hitch. It is labled as a Sheldon Hitch started on it yesterday with my best set of sockets and can of liquid wrench and a 3 foot length of pipe to use as a lever, got the bolts out then found that it was also welded on. went back today with a hack saw, a couple of chisels and a 3 pound hammer.. it came off. I got it for 16.99, add in tax and the everpresent environmental fees and it came to a total of 20.18 I think i did OK,, I'll get it blasted, I can die check the welds, make sure they are not cracked, then have it powder coated. http://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@N ... 106191286/ |

Schweeeet! You done good! You'll have fun using that to tow Wayne's super cool new race car... AND your Barracuda to Slant 6 races. I guess Wayne better start lookin' fer a tow rig of his own so you don't have to choose who gets towed...  Wait! Your Barracuda will be street/strip. Problem solved!

you nailed that, If I can make the Cuda a replica of Ryan C's Dart, I dig the 4 speed a833,,,,it would be mission accomplished. however, I have not got my first one done, got a second project in the wings and I am already planning the third one...who knows where this will end up? |

another step in the process of bringing the 83 d-150 into the 20th century is to add intermittent wipers. I had picked up the switch /motor/ control modules from 86 and up D-150's seems like by then it was standard. Back in 83 it was an option. However the motor, and switch wiring changed. The major difference is the 83 does not power from the fuse panel, it is powered directly off the ignition circuit, with a breaker built into the switch assembly. The 86 and up powers from the fuse panel. I was working through adapting the 86 motor and switch with delay to the 83, it is do able, the delay control module is common, just need to bring the power in through a fused connector,, then today, while roaming the pic a part,,found an 83 with the optional delay washer. It all got easy, got the switch, the motor,,the wiring is all there, just had to make the connections bench tested and it is all good! http://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@N ... 982584345/ |

Mounted the hitch today, the drivers side tail pipe will need to have its routing adjusted. While under there, some time ago I had picked up a cable driven spare tire lift/mount. Came from I think, a Ram 1500. originally the D-150 had a mini spare, that was held in place by steel cross beam secured by a couple of jack screws. To mount the cable drive I happened to find a galvanized bracket in my part collection that was real close to what I needed. Went together fairly easy,, the access to the shaft that drives the cable lift ended up behind the license plate. I'll put a grommet there. A full sized spare tire fit fine. If I ever need access to the spare will need to pull the license plate, that's OK,. works for me. http://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@N ... 121921132/ |

the door and window seals arrived this week and I spent a some time today prefitting them. The 83 D-150 goes to the paint shop on monday, so I did not do an actual install, just fit them in to see how the replacements compare to the originals here are photos : http://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@N ... 181615093/ I purchased the Precision Brand door and window seals * the window "whiskers" are identical for clip location and overall geometery, the new seals have a few wrinkles in the large radius , that may come out in use. But overall look to be nice duplicates of the OE seals. ** the first couple of photos,,the main windows channels, the OE seals are on the left, the new Precision seals are on the rights,, the OE seals have additional sealing fins, may be more robust, the attaching buttons on the OE and the Precision seals are identical. *** the next set of photos show the door edge seals,, here the again the OE seals is on the left and the Precision seal is on the right. The OE door seal is all rubber, the Precision seal is metal reinforced where it grips the door frame. The OE is a seal agains a D shape, the Precision seal is a seal against a O shape. I did just a rough install,, looks like the Precision seals will fit fine,, the window seals may be a bit less robust,, while the door seals may be more robust,,, still awaiting delivery of the vent and windshield seals.. reagrds DT |
