We don't have any "rich" retired slant6 racers on the West Coast, but we are thinking about making our races ,next year, 2 day races to help with the cost of traveling.

Hi PJ,

I think the 2-day race thing has worked very well over in the East, and does not seem to have hurt attendance. We may see some effect toward the end of the year, but I doubt it.

I guess I'm the only "rich" person left! :D

No I am very rich also! A wife of 30 years who still loves me, 4 hard working boys with character,3 wonderful daughter-in-laws, and 2 grandsons, and one grandaughter. Oh yeah, I'm rich! I just don't have a lot of extra cash! And I also get to slant 6 race once in a while.

As for the 2 day races, I like it. As a racer you get 2 chances to win. If you are traveling long distances to the race and then go out in the 1st round, there is always race #2. One man's opinion!

Wealth is a state of mind. :D

I quit travelling all over because it was just no fun anymore. I spent most of my time driving alone too, and that does kill the fun. Then there was a divorce, job change, moving a couple times, buying a house, getting remarried................... Plus, I was just plain having too much fun riding my motorcycle again.

I really hope to be able to travel more when I get the Daytona done. That is bringing a little excitement back for me.

Wow! That's about the dumbest statement I have ever heard if you want to protect your race car while you travel. That rich statement is always made by a government employee who can't make it in the real world. We worked hard and had nice stuff but I guess it offends some people if you give a 100% to a project. We proved a point with the Lancer and had fun doing it.

Hi Mark,

Not sure I follow all of your post, but I think everyone loved what you did with the Lancer. I personally thought it was great! And I wish I could have seen it run in person. I am glad that some people are able to do things that I never will with their cars. The fast cars are a big asset at our races and keep the fans interested. And the slow ones like mine are needed to have a nice turnout and make the races larger.

Take care,
Rick

Um, uh, wow.

I have to say I have nothing but respect for the fast guys who have spent their sweat and hard earned cash to build the cars and tow them safely to races.

I am truly sorry if I have insulted anyone.

Lou

It would seem that those scars run pretty deep. How many years has the Lancer been in eternal hibernation? And every time it comes up it seems like there is tension involved. :?

Sweet ride, very inspiring, wish it were still tearing up tracks...

Can we move on?

From a government employee who can't make it in the real world.

Oh yeah, and I'm RICH too! :P

What you need to do is have the East and West schedules worked out so that both sides have the same number of races, and let the chips fall where they may. I know Kearney counts as a West coast race, but maybe it shouldn't be a points race since it is really the only midwest race we have anymore.

No offense, but I have watched for years as racers try to get the rules slanted in their favor in an effort to exclude someone else.

One thing I have learned in my 35+ years of racing, there will always be someone who will be willing to outwork or outspend you to try and get the same prize you want.

Make the playing field as level as possible and let everyone take their beating like a big boy (or girl).

Slantzilla I thought Kearney race was a race that counted for both East & West for the respective points, not a one side only race. But maybe I'm wrong :?: It should count as a race for both sides and I also like your idea of having equal number of races.

That was my understanding also. Kearney a qualifying race for both East and West?? How about it Seymour?
I hope the "playing field"....I mean the "racing track" stays equal for everyone. Thats why I liked the East promoting 2 day races. Hopefully the West will do the same next year.

PJ, the 2 day races seemed to have worked real well so far. After pulling a long way to a race, going out first round is hard to take. (done that many times) Its comforting to know you have a second chance.

Kearney technically would be a West coast race, (it is west of the Mississippi) but it is an incredibly tough race to get to because it is so far away from everywhere.

Lou and I are pretty much the only East coasters to race there.

Counting it as both East and West on the schedule would be fair.

Kearney is definately in the Killer Bee's area, anything West of the Mississippi. The way I thought it worked was that anyone can count points (subject to other liimitations) from any race they enter even if it isn't in their area. The East-West points contests would be based on where each racer lives, not where he races. I am definatley a Killer Bee eventhough I might attend more races in the East. This is just my understanding, there may be specific rules to the contrary. I haven't been involved in a good fight about points rules since I quit doing the newsletter!

I've always considered it to be both. Whoever wins the points takes them back to their team. Works for me.

With the two day events, the east coast team is able to run the same number of events as the west coast. That's fair. If there are a couple more on the east coast side, that brings things into a more competitive realm, as car count hasn't been on a par with the west coast, IIRC.

Looks like there will be quite a race for the championship! PJ and Wendy are consistent event finallists. Looks like Ron is on a roll as well.

There are always the dark horse contenders, like that CJ guy.
We'll see how Charrlie does as well. If he's able to make some more events, and backs off his propensity for melting perfectly good parts, there could be a four way battle this year!
I'll be busy trying to go as fast as I possibly can, so am not a serious threat to bracket racers. If I can get a best time, I'll give up a round win for a fast break-out. :D
