You can often get away with over-camming or over-carbing a 1200 lb car, but in a 2500 lb car, its a much different ballgame.

Go for it! You will learn everything you need to know about overcarburation.

Then get a little AFB .

Not exactly.

It's refreshing to see people trying things that others haven't been able to work out. The physical laws that govern fluid flow may very well have changed without us noticing. :D

Here's the part where James Doohan in a Red Shirt shows up and starts yelling "Y'cannot change the laws of physics No matter how much I try, Captain!!!!!!!"

this set up came off a good running truck
it was wrecked.
u have never run nitro have u.

Wikipedia :As an engine fuel

Nitromethane is used as a fuel in motor racing, particularly drag racing, as well as for rockets and radio-controlled models (such as cars, planes and helicopters) and is commonly referred to in this context as "nitro." The oxygen content of nitromethane enables it to burn with much less atmospheric oxygen.
4CH3NO2 + 3O2 → 4CO2 + 6H2O + 2N2
The amount of air required to burn 1 lb (0.45 kg) of gasoline is 14.7 pounds (6.7 kg), but only 1.7 lb (0.77 kg) of air is required for 1 lb of nitromethane. Since an engine's cylinder can only contain a limited amount of air on each stroke, 8.7 times more nitromethane than gasoline can be burned in one stroke. Nitromethane, however, has a lower energy density: Gasoline provides about 42–44 MJ/kg whereas nitromethane provides only 11.3 MJ/kg. This analysis indicates that nitromethane generates about 2.3 times the power of gasoline when combined with a given amount of oxygen

I was talking about the air volume Jon. Not the nitro.

And no, I have not run Nitro. Your buttons are easy to push.

If it was running great, that's a testament to how the AFB, even if oversized, will tune on just about everything. What boosters are installed on it? What are the jets and metering rods? It's likely been running purely on the primary if the boosters weren't changed to make the primary smaller. The secondary butterflies are mechanical, the air door is not.
The secondary butterflies can be open as much as they want. If the air door doesn't open, then it's a big 2 bbl.
The metering rods go through the primary jets to vary mixture. The first step when dismantling one of these carburetors is to remove the metering rods so they aren't damaged when pulling the lid off.

On the other hand, I have meet people that believe that Jesus suspends the laws of thermal dynamics when pay day is a few days out and the gas tank is getting low.

There are 2-3 guys running 750 AFB's on their race cars that are on this Forum quite a bit. A bit much for a street car. They seem to like them. Maybe they will chime in.
