When I was full of enthusiasm and wore my rose colored glasses I beat the bushes pretty hard trying to get most, some, any... of the "old" racers to come to Clay City.

I got the latest SSRN directory from Seymour and called everyone I could.

I've pestered folks like Howard Davis, Barry Harrison, The Drakes, Gordie Stevens, Pete Nichols,... yadda yadda yadda...

The only person that actually showed up was Mark "Team Green". Thanks Mark! You made it all worth it and it's great having you back racing with us again!

I've still got all of my Slant 6 junk stored away and plan to get back to it,... eventually...

It occurred to me that the only reason y'all ain't lookin' at that Championship thread all that much this year is 'cuz I ain't been addin' all that color commentary stuff like I dun all them other years!

Some of you don't wanna admit it, but you know you like it when I do that...

Any who... I just wanna repeat myself...

I agree, I think all auto racing is on it's last leg.
I am thinking about the next license plate for the Lancer:
"Not your great-grandma's slant 6"

Hopefully there is one more glimmer of hope. Barry Harrison was at our race in Wilkesboro 2 weeks ago and he said he plans to race with us again in 2017.

That's awesome Rick!! He wasn't on the points roster and there wasn't any mention of him, so I wasn't aware he showed up. Very cool! 8)

Way to go in passing on your knowledge to the next evolution of Slant 6 racer Charlie!

Wow, that would be cool have Barry back in Slanted action. Always a nice guy with a fast and well built car...

Looking forward to Clay City...

I think the answer has already been hit on. There may still be a good amount of interest in hot rodding and drag racing in general but there is a dwindling supply of affordable candidates (cars) to be found. When I was dirt tracking I had or was involved with a 65 Plymouth $700 race car that needed a motor and radiator, a 71 Cuda, wrecked $200, a 61 Falcon (2 door post, straight with little rust) $100, a 72 Nova $75, a '73 Nova $150 and there were others.
Back then we found them in back yards and in car ports, junk yard parts were plentiful. I bought a running, driving '69 Road Runner for $650!
That was all in the late 70s through the early 90s.
Now I never see any of those cars in junk yards around here. Gone, crushed, over. That was the biggest shock for me, no one around here had anything OLD. The one yard that did got busted for running an illegal chop shop and crushed and sold all their old stuff to pay for legal expenses.
Now prices are astronomical for junk. Nice cars are not entry level items.
We got old, the cars got old.

I just bought a '78 Volare 2 door for not a whole lot of money. Has a rod rattling in it. It could be bought reasonably if somebody wanted to do an F body. :)

It is silver, way out of your wheelhouse.

It has occurred to me that this car is a great candidate for an NHRA V/SA class car. I have already asked my Stocker buddy from Indy to come up and hit me with a bat for even thinking such silliness.
