3 million miles? Your kidding, right?
What about this 800k? I'm a bit iffy on it.. maybe 800k on the car yes thats doable, but 800k on a single unrebuilt engine?
Yeah yeah, my finger stuttered on the "3" :P

But yeah, I wish I could remember where I heard it, but IIRC, that was the world record was 800K miles before a rebuild, and it was on a slant.

The world record for a gasoline powered car is 2 million miles. The original engine was rebuilt at 600K but has been going on the rebuild for 1.4 million. Here's a link: http://www.vcoa.org/irv_o_meter.shtml

I saw an article somewhere on the web that claimed the record for a continuously driven car without a rebuild was a 225 slant six somewhere in Arizona presently a little over 800k. I'll try to find the site again.

I saw where a guy put over a million highway miles on his 95 Chevy truck. Changed the oil every other day, like clockwork. The company whose oil he used (can't remember which brand) bought the truck from him and gave him a brand new truck, so they could tear down the engine and look at it.

A friend's grandpa has an old Toyota truck that's held together by rust and dirt. The engine has over a million miles on it.

You know if it's an older pickup or a Land Cruiser?

They both had straight engines (the Cruiser a 6 and the pickups a 4) that're famous for their longevity, but 1M miles, WOW!

Where I work we put about 1000 kms a week on the vehicles. Our 95 Ram (318) is pushing 375K with no major problems besides transmissions and the 96 caravan (3L) we just got rid of had 305K and 3 transmissions also. No major engine work to either just routine maint. My own 97 neon (DOHC) has about 200K and I don't think a day goes by where the tach needle doesn't hit 6500. May not sound too impressive but if you knew my personal maintenance routine you might be surprised (I owe that car an apology cause it's never left me stranded). It's been run short of oil, coolant, overheated in rush hour traffic, whatever, and it keeps coming back for more. It's had it's share of head gaskets but all in all....

My 76 Dart Swinger is pushing 225,000 and oil changes and the like were almost nonexistent.
