Unlimited requires a blower or turbo, or some other power adder besides nitrous. NA motors are in the Gas or Alcohol records. Yes, my D/U records are really soft, and will not stand long...

Congrats to Mark and PJ!

Looks like D/G could be hotly contested in the coming year - great!

Lou
ok.... i'll just have to be happy with D/G... but not mark has me going hmmm.... No2... lol

The way it is now, 1/8 mile records must be set at a 1/8 mile track. I understand this issue will be discused over the winter, as there are many racers, that do not have access to a 1/8 mile track.

But by the same token, there are 1/8 mile racers, that do not have access to a 1/4 mile track. So they would be at a disadvantage, as there is no way they could get a 1/4 mile split. That is why we need the discussion. Especially if there will be points awarded for setting a record. Needs to be equidable for everyone.

there is no reason they still cant set an 1/8 mile record...

seems if you have an 1/8 mile track you can do 1/8 record...

w/ a 1/4 track you could get 1/8 and/or 1/4 records...

see the 1/8 milers would have an advantage cuz they can run crazy gear...

Right, but the folks that only have access to 1/8th mile tracks only have one choice for records. If we change the rules to allow the 1/4 milers to set 1/8 mile records, they have two choices...

You have a floor? I thought that was removed as a weight saving measure, long ago.

For 1/8th mile records is there only 1 race back east where we can go for it?1 race weekend at a track over 2000 miles away isnt fair to the west coasters. If there were 3 or 4, 1/8th mile events in the season I might except it better. As it stands I really really think splits should count at any Slant event.MY OPINION.Record whore,Guzzi Mark

Mark,

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree there is some unfairness here. I do know there are 1/8th mi tracks in the West, though. Do you think all the West racers feel this way?

We will certainly discuss this at the Eastern banquet in Feb, and I'll talk to Seymour too.

Slant on,

Lou

Lou, I for one agree with Mark. One thing to remember is most of the West Coast cars are geared for 1/4 not 1/8, that being said if a West Coast car can set a record by spliting the 1/4 Good for them.

Personally, I don't have a dog in this fight. All the slant six races are at least a 600 mile trip for me. I can set my car up for 1/8 or 1/4, and have both 1/8 and 1/4 tracks semi local to me (non slant). However there are mostley 1/8 mile tracks in the Carolina's, if I am not mistaken. Those cars would not have the option to run the 1/4 without a "road trip".
I agree there should be some discussion on this.
PS: many 1/4 mile tracks are now running 1/8 mile as a matter of economics. More runs per hour, and less breakage, cheaper insurance (lower speeds). Gainesville raceway, has been splitting the season with some 1/4 mile dates, and some 1/8 mile dates. The NHRA division 2 bracket finals are run 1/8 mile (last year on a 1/4 mile track).

Charlie,

That is a great point. I'm sure the Western folks could just ask to have some races be run 1/8th mile on whatever track they are racing. Food for thought... OR, folks on either side of the country could ask for 1/4 mile one day and 1/8 mile the other day, of a TWO DAY race. If someone wanted to swap gears or change the car, they could do it after the 1st race was over and run the 2nd day with a "new" setup.

This would solve the problem by having everyone run some 1/8 mile races.

Keep the comments coming!

Lou
