Is that a good place for the return spring to be mounted? Looks like engine torque would try to close the throttle on you.

It is NOT a good place to mount it and it is not permanent. Good eye!

Mine has been mounted in a similar fashion for many years on the hyperpack dart... never had any problems.

Really that set up didn't present any problems while driving and the reality of it is, throttle return springs are trying to close the throttle all the time.

All the extra 'Bigfoot' adrenaline at WOT easily overcomes a little extra spring tension 8)

Going up to Paradise tomorrow and see if the changes I've made help or hurt. Maybe I will run into Finnegan, but I doubt it. :D
