I thought some people here might be interested in on of my projects. It's a '79 Newport I'm preparing for the 24 Hours of Lemons. http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/ The Newport has already been stripped of most of it's interior. Carpet, door panels, seats, dash, headliner are all gone. The 318 runs good, trans shifts fine, brakes and suspension are even pretty good. So good in fact I think the 63k on the clock is NOT 163k!

My wife said I should make a MySpace page for the car/tem so here it is...
http://www.myspace.com/lemonsnewport Be sure to read the blog for status updates!

I am shamelessly soliciting donations for the effort! Buy some advertising space, donate a pair of tires or wheels, $5 cash, it's all good!

I can sell parts off the car to recoup the purchase price of the car so if anyone needs a good electronic spark control system let me know. I was thinking of selling it as a package of computer, distributor and carburetor. It works really well, but it's not going to like the cam I'll be using so it has to go.

We are working towards a Spring '08 debut. If you can help with a donation or would like to join the team let me know. If you're in SW Washington aka the greater Portland area and can help with car prep or just want to visit you're more than welcome!

Sincerely,

Joshua Skinner

Hi Josh,

This race looks like a blast. Please post the dates of the race, and keep us up on progress. Keep us up on what parts you need too, and maybe we can help out.

I'm tracking expenses for the project with a spreadsheet. I found that MS Excel will save spreadsheets as web pages and I've uploaded the spreadsheet so everyone can see where the money is going/has gone. Items that do not have prices next to them are items I know are needed, but have not been purchased. Anyone that has stuff listed and not priced is welcome to donate, but donations for things other than safety, tires, wheels and brakes do count against the budget. As much as I'd like to be able to accept an aluminum intake or headers the budget just won't allow it. So far I've been raiding my existing parts stash, getting good deals from friends, and yesterday hitting a wrecking yard.

I am also looking for sponsorship for things that don't count against the budget. This is a long car and much ad space is available. Anything that helps offset expenses like fuel, mounting and balancing, etc are graciously accepted. You will get your name on the car!

See the MySpace blog for pictures of the ignition system. It's groovy stuff that can be used on a /6 too.
