I never have owned a propane powered car but seams like a good idea. I have read on here that some of our forien friends use it. I just wonder what it would be like to use it on a /6. I wonder about consistency at the drag strip? I will never be the fastest but consistent numbers get the trophys. melam@nxs.net |

I talked to a guy at Clifford a couple of weeks ago who says he runs propane and nitros in a 14:1 compression Ford inline 6. He has it set up to run on gas through a carb and when he wants to race he shuts off the gas and turns on the propane. Sounds kind of crazy but he says it works. I run my 1987 Slant 6 truck on propane. The propane mixer just sits on top of the gasoline carburetor in place of the air filter housing. the propane mixer is inside the air filter you see in the picture. A selector switch in the cab operates electric solenoid valves to select eithter propane or gasoline. cfield@ll.net |

With propane you don't have the spit-sputter, engine dies when you put it in gear problems you do with gasoline. No hesitation problems either. Runs just like a modern vehicle with fuel injection. Also the 105 or so octane of propane got rid of my detonation problem. cfield@ll.net |

I got all the stuff from a local guy who has been in the propane engine/automobile conversion business for many years. I installed everything myself and went back to him so we could use his exhaust gas anlyzer to adjust the fuel ratios. A propane conversion is not generaly recommeded as a do-it-yourself project. Check out the Impco website at <A HREF="http://www.ibuild.ws/">http://www.ibuild.ws/</A> . My propane mixer and vaporizer are Impco brand. Also look at <A HREF="http://wps.com/LPG/LPG-book-final.html" ... al.html</A> for more info. Also search the internet. The mixer is a direct bolt on, in place of a Ford or Holley 2 bbl carb. My original plan was to try it with my turbo slant. However I never got that far. P.S. as a related thought. How about doing away with the vaporizer and mixer, and injecting liquid propane,with fuel injectors right into the manifold runners. With the aftermarket programable ECM units, it might be possible.
