What is most likely to break in a high hp, high rpm 225?

That would be the oil pump drive gear.
Then, once you get to the 350 to 400 HP range, stock connecting rods start to break.

Thanks. Hey I thought your wallet breaks first!?

I'm cooking up a dirt track slant (probably aluminum block) and want to know the weak points. We're looking for 350+ hp at whatever rpm that requires. The pistons might end up being custom 3.75 bore, lightweight, a lighter piston/pin should take stress off the con rod. We would like to use the 7" rod too which should help with rod stress. Maybe the 7" Jag rods I saw someone refer to would be the ticket, where could one get those? What is done about the oil pump driveshaft? We think we have the headgasket problem covered. All suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks again.

Sounds like a fun project, keep us up-dated on your development.
What is your idea / solution on the head gasket problem the Alm. SL6 is known for?

When building the Alm. SL6, head studs and main studs would be a big advantage, especially the main studs. I have tried to get ARP to do a special run but so far, no luck. May-be it is time to try again?

While we're on the subject, what is the max safe RPM to run on a stock engine? (meaning stock oiling, stock valvetrain, etc.)

Define safe? I don't think it will go much past 7 anyway. Sane would be 6500 doug will tell us. I know my 170 would really spin up

This sounds like the start of another good thread so you may want to start a new post on this question.

Be careful to define what you mean by "stock" seeing that the 1bbl and stock cam really limits the RPM on a "stock" SL6.
