Okay..I guess I am the first one to return from one great weekend of racing (and partying) at Samoa. We had 14 cars and missed several of our regualar team members but still had some good racing. On Friday, the track waved all but $25.00 to race. yes, only $25.00 which included admission. We had a special area of parking and did it look great with all the trailers and support vehicles all in a row. Frank Wright showed up with his new RV pulling a new enclosed trailer. Inside was his 64' Dart convertible which he had "upgraded" over the winter. Frank used to be a racer "back when" as many of us were and he was able to make it into the semi-finals running in the low 15's. His plans are to get a higher stall convertor and then will be in the 14's. Dave Enders with family came all the way from Sacto and was getting some 'seat time' while cutting some good lights. Friday Andrew had reserved the entire top floor of the local beer brewery and we all joined him for dinner and of course a few beers. (We did think of CJ and Fopar and Joshua) and raised a toast to our "missing team mates". Might even had two or three "toasts'" ..Then on Saturday a light mist came in from the ocean late in the a.m. so the track. A forcast of rains on Sunday circulated through the pits so the track officials had a drivers meeting and said that they may had to cancel a portion of the racing for the pro's. bikes, dragsters as the track was a little slippery. They said that the first run would be from the visiting Killer Bee Racing Team and if any racing would happen, it would start with the Slant6 team. What a privilege...At 3:00 the track was perfect and we finished up our racing around 5:30. Then off to what is becoming the best BBQ ever at the large Victoria home of Andrew and Jessica Howard. The main table started with platters of watermelons, cantalopes, vegggies, salmon dips, salsa, chips, deviled eggs, corn on the cob, bean casarol, Killer Bees candies, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, cheesecake..four kinds of beers, sodas, I could go on and on..I hope you are getting the point..The Howards are a CLASS ACT and if you all didn't come to Samoa either to race or support you team..YOU MISSED OUT...Photos to come via Terry and Doug...Watch for them and a revised points standings against our competition from the East/South. |

Ok here is what i know,!st round. allen dutra won the bye. john terry won vs. doug dutra, glen terrry beat jessica howard, aric erickson over p.j ,frank wright over rhonda amis , david endres over dave erickson and i sergio defeated andrew howard. Wayne unfortunately could not make the call duo to mechanical woes. We were not too kind to the hosts .Second round,John Terry defeated Allen Dutra ,Glen Terry defeated Aric E. setting up a father /son duel. Frank Wright moved on on a single and i won over Dave Endres. Semis The Kid took the old timer to school and i won over Frank wright . Finals I lit the red bulb and John terry wins ,he earned it with a good light and a right on et. My consolation is that i won sportsman and took Glen out on my way to the win. |

Nice work Sergio. Is it possible that when Glen moves up to Sportsman John will carry on in Slant 6 where his father left off? |

My bet is John Terry will be running with the SL6 group more & more in the future... and like his father, he is a good bracket racer. I knew I had my work cut-out for me when I drew John T. for the first round in the SL6 points race so I dial-in close and was ready to cut a good light. I went -004 red (rats) to his .002 reaction time. (ouch) I ran the car thru anyway and cought him at the stripe... but ran 12.817 on my 12.82 dial. ( double ouch!) John is smart enought to know that that round win could have easily gone my way. My next day in Sportsman was the same way... I get paired with another SL6 car (David) Cut a good light (.030) catch David at the stripe and "lifted" just a bit... The car runs an 12.80 on a 12.78 dial and I loose when David runs a 18.201 on his 18.20 dial-in. It was not my weekend to win rounds. On the other hand, my son Allen had a chance to drive my Lancer racecar on Sunday during the SL6 "gambler's race" we had that day. We turned-off the spray and I gave him a few pointers... and he goes to the final. The car ran a 14.67 in time trials, a 14.64 in the first round and another 14.67 in the second round. I tell Allen that the car usually runs 14.40 & 50s on the motor so watch for the break-out... he runs 14.49 and broke-out against Andrew (the Kidd) in an "all toad car" final race that was fun to watch. As already noted... lot's of fun and good times at this event... if you were not there, you missed a good one! DD |

Sergio reported the following...david endres over dave erickson. It should be the other way around. So I was out in the first round Saturday. Sunday was my best ever getting into the 3rd round of the Sportsman class. Thanks anyways Sergio. My family and I all had a great time at Samoa. It's not the best of strips but surely a class act. The folks up there did an outstanding job and were always very friendly. I appreciated the fact that Wayne involved my oldest son Billy in the club activities. Bill took great pride in helping out and being part of the group. My hat is also off to Andrew and Jessica who did an outstanding job on the BBQ...all very delicious, nice setting with plenty to talk about. Great weekend! Can't wait for Medford. |
