Has anyone retrofitted their old Mopar with an aftermarket electronic speedometer? I'm curious what type of sending unit they have.

Don't know if this'll help you any, but just picked up an engine/trans out of a van. Had an aftermarket cruise control in it that used a small magnet, epoxied to the front driveshaft yoke, with a bracket bolted to the trans that held a magnetic sensor. That was used to send the signal to the cruise processor, which in turn controlled a vac diaghram connected to the throttle linkage.

That's what I've seen too, but I heard somewhere that there are sending units that screw into the speedometer cable drive on the transmission. I'm sure that's too much to expect for a MoPar, but thought it might be possible.

The 88 and newer pickups and vans use a speed sensor that is part of the EFI system. If it is anything like my FWD trannies the sensor plugs into the tranny (it has replaceable drive gears to accommodate tire size) and the speedo cable mounted on top of that. My 89 Daytona has an electric speedo and the sensor that plugs into the tranny is the same as the older cars but without the provision to attach the speedo cable.

Worth a look at the local junk yard.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall, (I think), that Stewart-Warner had something like that available, but my (foggy) memory is telling me it was for retro-fitting older transmissions to cars with electronic speedos. It might be worth checking into.
