Post subject:  Strange Question

If you had a brand new fresh slant six, would you be able to trust it for a 238,900 mile trip? Same distance from Earth to the moon. It might get you there but you might be pushing her for the return trip. Now I need to figure out how long it would take driving at 60mph. See, strange!

You can't drive to the moon. So I think the answer is it would take forever. My wife says the answer is zero. I'm really not sure

How about a big propeller? But seriously folks, I saw somewhere on the net that the world record for a gas engine (without a rebuild) is now over 800,000 miles on a slant six! Has anyone else seen this, and where?

Would you be getting out and changing the oil every 3k miles? :^) Honestly though I think you could. My '66 Dart (well, my wife's really) has 204k original miles, and I'm guessing it'll make it another 30k. The Dart was inherited from my father-in-law, the original owner, so I know the mileage is accurate. Will it make another 200k? I doubt it, but who knows, there's a 2 million mile Volvo out there and the slant 6 seems to be as well suited for high mileage.

OK! if you were to set out to drive to the moon (238,900 miles)
At 60 miles/hour it would take you 3982 hours (non-stop) or 166 days.
If you maintained an average 25 miles/gallon; it would take 9558 gallons of fuel. With an 18 gallon tank that would be 531 stops for fuel.
If each stop took you 15 minutes, add an additional 133 hours or 5.5 days to your trip.
TMI? (too much info)

Now, this is GOOD! I am going to have to copy this and frame it on the wall near the moon picture.
I might be listening too much of Country Joe & the Fish.. (LP's) ;P Thanks for the truly great post!
