Hey guys, since I already have the head at the machine shop, and its going to get resurfaced any way, do you guys think it would be a good idea to have him go ahead and cut a little more off while he's at it to bump up the compression? Or would you guys leave it alone and just have it cleaned up, since I plan on running 210hp of juice? Thanks Jason. |

Are you going to be a street driver? If yes, I would say mill some to get compression about 9.3-9.5 to one. Then you can run pump gas. Use a separate fuel system, including a small tank, for the 114 octane race fuel, to feed the nitrous system. If race only, mill the hell out of it, maybe even cut the top of the block. |

A 210 shot of juice? My motor is right at 10.8-1 and I run it on 87 octane on the street, and race it on 91-93. |

Hey charlie, the car is only going to be driven on the track. Right now the compression is at 10.5 to 1. I would like to get to 12.5 to 1, but I am unsure of the possible problems with the nitrous. Me and the guy at the machine shop are talking about taking off 20 thou. But I think we might go up to 40 thou. Let me know what you think. Jason. |

Jason, First a disclaimer. I am not an expert on nitrous. I am still learning. These are my OPINIONS only. I would go for a good set of pistons. Rework the oiling system as per the Doc. Build the motor for durability. I would stay with the 10.5 compression for now. Mill the head just enough to make sure it is flat. Later on, you can cut it some more, to raise the ratio. Also take a lite cut off the block, to make sure it is flat. Nitrous is hard on head gaskets. I have had good luck with the Chrysler stock shim gasket, (had a composition gasket start to leak). Back down on the nitrous, to maybe a 125 hp shot. Nitrous pressure between 900 and 1000 lbs. Fuel pressure about 6 lbs flowing. Timing about 28-30 degrees total. Cold plug, with a short ground electrode, non extended tip. I use 114 octane 76 race gas. Start there, then work with the tune up. Little by little add more hp with the nitrous system. Let the engine tell you what it likes and wants. I cannot advise you on the plate system, I don't like a plate on a inline engine. I have a fogger on mine, which has worked well. I have run more than 130 lbs of nitrous through my engine. |

Hey charlie, thank you for the advice. As far as plugs are concerned. What plugs would you recommend? I tried explaining what I need to the guy at auto zone but he had no clue. So, what plugs do you recommend? Thanks. Jason. |

Do you have the early head, with the plug tubes, or the late head? |

Hey charrlie, I have the spark plug tubes. The motor is a 68'. Thanks. Jason. |

Jason, Go to the parts store, and look at a Autolite 66 plug, and a NGK B9ES. Both plugs are for an early slant six. Compare the length of the ground electrode. The NGK is much shorter. This is better, in a nitrous application. These plugs are not the same heat range. I just used the Autolite number, because I knew it was for a slant. The NGK is the plug I use with nitrous. PS. to give credit, where it is due. Will Burns (so low cuda) informed me of this when I first started using nitrous. |
