I am thinking about entering it into a CHUMPCAR 24 hour race or a double 7 hour race. I am currently on a team and we have had a blast running our FWD 6cyl car. In our stable we have a 66 dart roller that needs an engine and transmission. I have a super six with a A-833 OD and was wondering if you guys thought that the engine would survive. Will it starve for oil in long sweeping corners? what about fuel? I have a Carter BBD carb. will it keep fuel in the engine on long sweeping corners? will the 7.25 rear last? I think I have an 8.75 available, i assume I'd want to sure grip it. I wanted to stick with the 2bbl for fuel economy, but am open to anything. Oh YEAH!, we only have a $500 budget. that is for car and engine. maintenance and safety is a non issue. but i cant show up with a $900 carb/intake setup! I'd love to hear your thoughts and concerns. Thanks Matt |

Matt, Sounds like a fun project! There was a group recently running an E36 BMW chassis with stock 225 Slant 6 in the Lemons series. They oil starved it and have blown at least one engine so far. I have done quite a bit of road course running with Slants, and you need to make a custom oilpan with baffles and wider and/or deeper sump to cope with cornering. I ran a 0.75 - 1" deeper sump with some baffling for a long time until I put sticky tires on, then needed to go further and widened it on the pass side for an extra quart. I would think fuel slosh in a BBD would be fine. I've used the Holley 500 2bbl on an Offy or Clifford 4V intake (w/$25 Mr. Gasket adapter plate), and its fine with barrels side-side, not transverse mounted. Have also run TBI, but that is beyond your budget... If the 7.25" axle is in good shape, you should be fine. I ran several track weekends with one and it never had trouble. Cheers, Lou |

Thanks for the info. I have a local Mopar guy that is a custom cage builder that is willing to do the oil pan baffles. Might as well go ahead and do it. I started looking for a sump, but am wanting to get a real commitment from the team first before I go and do anything more. I am just trying to get an idea of how much $$$ it might be to get the engine road race ready on a LIMITED budget. Thanks again, an d I'll keep ya updated Matt |

Sounds great. Spend a lot of time on the oilpan and pickup placement, and head porting... Lou |

I was planning on doing a simple port matching, should I be doing something more drastic? |

Pull the valves and spend time in the bowls. That will get you the biggest gains, and even stock valve heads benefit a lot. Don't worry about enlarging the ports and don't touch the floors of the ports. You can totally remove/smooth the valve guide boss on the EXH and reduce it a lot on the int. Lou |
