I will be buying a turbo for my car in the next few weeks. I am up in the air for a early 80's buick turbo with a four barrel or a 2.2 mopar turbo. Anyone have any info on doing a 2.2 turbo upgrade in a draw thru design? |

have you done any reading on the draw thru ? The 2.2 (T03 turbo ) cars might be a little smaller then the gm turbo. But I am not exactly sure until I would see the numbers on the turbo housing. Andrew Wagner |

I think the 2.2 is smaller, from what I have seen. My only reason for thinking about using the 2.2's turbo is its availability around here is much better. If its still gonna be ok to use it on a draw thru and I can't find a gm turbo by the end of the month then I'll be picking up on eof those. |

FWIW, the 84-86 2.2 turbo's were a draw through design. |

Please excuse my ignorance. I see people referring to draw-through design. What the heck does that mean? |

With a draw thru the carb (or throttle body) is before the turbo compressor, and with a blow thru they would be after the turbo compressor. Bob D |

I am really in the air as to what I am gonna be doing, but it will be happening very soon whatever it is. Option 1, pickup a 1980 GM turbo and carb Option 2, pickup a Draw thru 2.2 turbo Option 3, convert to a Fuel Injection system. I have access to mid 80's fuelinjected supra motor, I have to find out if it's sequential or batch fired. If its batch fired I'll probably use it as my donor for a fuel injected setup, then in the spring, I'll add a turbo in a blow thru setup. I wanted to ask Dr.Doc if he has made any progress on the fuel rail instructions. I have gone through both articles on FI stuff(manifold and 3.8 gm conversion) and I think I should be ok to do it all. I have a spare suitable manifol I can use and If the FI system on the supra motor is compatible then I can use it as a donor for the fuel injection stuff. |

Hey dgc do you know what the model number and what car models the 2.2 draw thru turbo was on? |

So a Blow-thru turbo system would take a pretty special carb? What are the upsides and downsides to each system? |

Well a blow through is hard to get the mixture right as the airflow increases exponentially so a blow thorugh carb usually runs either rich low end or lean highend, Unless its fuel injected then the mass airflow sensor takes care of the mixture for you. The draw through setup draws the entire mixture into the turbo and compresses it and spits it out so the mixture is easy to get right. Most every turbo is Fuel injected now a days, but when they were carbs most used a draw thru system. b4black bukcs, early mopars, even the euros used draw thru. The advantage of a blow thru is you can easily plum in an intercooler. and codler air means more compression before you get detonation. more compression equals more power. Since I am only after about 200 hp I should only nbeed to run about 9 psi witch shouldn't need to worry about detonation as I will be drawing air in from a "shaker" hood scoop. Anyway I called around and found a good deal on a drawthru mopar turbo so I may pick that one up. |

You need to go to the Yahoo groups and sign up for the blow-thru newsgroup. What you have stated is not necessarily correct. Read the archives, it is very informative. |
