Thanks for posting, Jon. I believe knocking the guides off the exh, and mostly off the int ports is worth a bit. Lou |

I actually just did that in my new head, based on some calcs from a British Cylinder Head book I had been reading. I asked my machinist to reduce the new guides down a bit since I cleaned the boss down to the port wall. He left me about 3/8" of guide sticking into the port since I had requested to have some guide left to keep the valve stem stable and resist some wear(side loading of the stem) over the life I expect out of the guides and ensuring the valve seats properly for at least one race season. This is probably the first time I've ever looked seriously at running the calculation for port velocity (glad the slant has smaller ports, velocity even with opening the ports up quite a bit is still fine at highway rpms luckily). Thanks for sharing, it's a good read! -D.Idiot |
