I think I'm ready to finally buy some pistons for my new motor . here is my plan as of now:

clifford 4bbl maninfold
edelbrock 500 cfm carb
cam (not sure what to go with here)
forged crank
bigger valves (again not sure exactly what size)
ported head shaved .030
10.5-11ish:1 compression
340 springs
198 rods
2.2l pistons
higher stall converter
bored +.065
mopar 6x1 header
fel-pro gaskets
8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear end with 3.55 gears

I do have a couple questions regarding the pistons however:

I'm looking at KB part# 268 2.2l turbo pistons. KB pistons
1)Does .5mm oversized equal a .065" overbore? Has anyone ever used these here? About how much do they cost?

The second set of pistons I'm looking at are the silvolite H1290 hypereutectic pistons .5mm oversized. Silvolite
2)Are these better/worse then the KB pistons? Anyone here use these? How much are they?

Well that's it for now, I've got a lot of work to do but my goal is to be done by the slant six race in las vegas. Thanks for any help.

  * 8 weeks to build a new engine *

You have a good plan but not enough time, what is your "Plan B" :?:

As for the Hypereutectic pistons, the KBs have no pin offset and have a higher ring pack.

The Silvolite 1290 piston has a smaller dish so the compression will be around 11 to 1, this piston has an off-set pressed pin, the 1291 has a bigger dish and a "floating" pin.

Me thinks you should tune-up the SL6 you have running now or build a trick head and slap it on a good short block. March will be here quick.

Very true Doc, all I can do is give it my best shot, but no matter what I'm going to vegas in March even if it is with my stock slant.

I've been working on this project since I chose my block in september and now it's all comming together. Thanks for the help with the pistons, I'm still not totally sold on one or the other though but I've got some time to think about it.

Post subject:  Cast or forged

Doug,
Are any of these pistons Forged? Or are they all cast?

The Silvolite / KB piston are special material cast units.
The old TRW / Federal Mogal are forged but these are now discontinued and remaining stock is going fast.

Doc,

Where can I get the KB268 pistons? I called KB today and they said I couldn't buy them or even get a price for them unless I had an account number with them. What's up with that? Am I calling the correct number? (800) 648-7970.

Order them through any parts store, even Summit or PAW.
Most manufacturers will not sell to the customer direct unless you have a resale number.
