I have the same cam from Racer Brown. It is set at 105*, but it is still kinda lazy down low. If you are using an MP chain be sure to check it. Mine was marked almost 2 teeth retarded.

I finally got a degree wheel , so I'm going to be degreeing my cam on saturday , I initially have it set "straight up" based on the timing chain marks. Its a mopar performance cam with the following specs 268/268 duration , 56 overlap , .460/.460 lift with a recommeneded 106 centerline. Does anyone have any experience with this cam ?? and would recommend any deviation from 106 ?? or should I just go by MP spec and set it up at 106 ?? thanx |

For the street, I would advance that cam 4 degrees. Thats based on true "srtaight-up" so your first step will be to see if the marks on the gear set are accurate, then adjust from there. DD |

Yes, in your example, a 102 intake centerline = 4 degrees advance. Here is a pretty good webpage on cam degreeing: http://www.thedirtforum.com/degree.htm Read-up and check everything twice, you should be fine. DD |

thanx guys , I've never ran into a bad timing chain set that I'm aware of , of course I've only done a few. What would be the best way to verify the accuracy of the chain ?? would I for instance after I installed the cam , have made sure that the marks were lined up accurately with the number 1 cylinder at top dead center (compression stroke) and the valves on number one were in the "rock" position ?? or would there be a better way to verify this ?? |

I found mine when I tried to degree the cam. With the marks lined up, it was way retarded.

Lou got a zinger in there!  If you want to know the accuracy (of the marks on the timing chain), I think what you need to check with the marks lined up, is that you have split overlap, exactly, at TDC #1 (exhaust stroke). |
