Post subject:  Carter or Holley??

Hi group,

I'm going to buy a carb... any thoughts on whether to use Holley 1920 or Carter BBS or ??? I don't want to spend more than $100 on this. AutoZone has Holley for $80 and Carter for $94 plus core charges.

Stock application on a super 225 in Valiant 200. :?

Thanks,

Tom

You can get a little more MPG and performance out of the Holley but Holley's are more prone to problems and getting a good "rebuilt" carb can be a challenge.

The Carter BBS is more reliable and will take more abuse.
The big problem with these is that the housing gets bent from overtightening.

Wow, that is exactly the experience I have had, Doug. People usually badmouth the Holley, but if you get a good one (a big IF sometimes), then they are better.

Based on the reports of bad reman carbs from the parts stores, I'd say the Carter BBS is the better bet. Even better would be to swap on a Supersix Carter BBD and manifold...
