Well I live about 20 miles from Dale Rose in Ga so my idea of fast is 9.90s!!!! I want to buy or build a nos motor. If I have to go from scratch I was thinking 3.5 inch bore, light crank, aluminum main caps, aluminum rods, biggest valves, best cam, ect, an planned to spray the $*%@ out of it! My car should be light around 2200#, But i know there are not many of this type engine out there so I would take somthing less to get started and get the car sorted out any ideas? Thanks, Mike |

I just ran some quick numbers on an internet "Racing Calculator" If you're going to run 9.90's with a 2200# car you're looking at 450+ hp. If the weight is closer to 1500# you can do it with about 300 hp. Just talking off the cuff, but lowering the weight and hp may be a little more realistic. In the mid 80's I had a 69 Camaro Super Gas car, Alston Chassis (tube frame) , 9" Ford, 4 link, 496 BB, Powerglide, 2200 lbs. It ran 9.90's. |

Go grab any 68-75 SL6 (forged crank engine) do a 'quickie' overhaul and add some cam. Get the head checked for cracks then do some clean-up work the ports and install some oversize valves. Toss a good intake and set of headers on it and go racing. I did this a while back, used a junkyard SL6 short block and ran 14.5s, hit it with some spray and went 13.09 before I fried it. DD |

I'm with you, Doc. 2200#/13.09 puts you at 195+ at the rear wheels. VERY do-able. |

Yup, junkyard shortblock race engines are pretty common, especially in "claimer" type racing. Run the numbers based on 2800 lbs, that's what my Barracuda weighs. DD |

How about a streetable 170 engine at 3215 lbs? 13.22 sec 1/4 mile. Nitrous fogger system, on a very mild engine. |
