Who makes hardened valve seats? I am putting the MP oversized valves in my 225, but I also want to get hard seats. I suppose the machinist could get them, but I would like to comparison shop, and maybe get them cheaper than he would sell them to me for. Thanks |

When you have a machine shop do the work you are not really paying for the part but paying for the work done. I brought in a set of 576 casting 360 heads to get "fixed" with new valve seats. It would have cost about $300 to have Stainless Steel oversize valves and the porting and polishing done. Instead I gave him the heads and he gave me a set of "J" heads |

Normally, if you buy parts elsewhere and take them to a shop to install them, they will adjust the labor rate up according to the profit they lost on the parts. Machinist's gotta eat too. |

You seem to be a lucky one then. Machine shops here quote labor plus parts. I've even had a few notable shops tell me to bring in the parts I want installed. Those that didn't quoted higher on the seats, than installing them and doing the valve job. Just dont want to get ripped off Thanks |
