I have been to his place, and would love to go to Clay City, but the funds just aren't there. Not even with help on gas, for transporting the trans. Sorry.

So,... How much would it take to convince you to come Charlie...?

Kev sold that tranny I was interested in, but the engine is still sitting there...

Aaron NEEDS that 904...

We would love to have you at Clay City...

AND you could make some record runs at one of the fastest tracks East of the Mississippi! :D

(I'm tryin' ta help ya out here Aaron. )

Anyone else need anything transported Florida to Kentucky or visa versa...?

The problem with going to a race like Clay City, or M-D, is the distance. Clay City is about 825 miles, and M-D is about 900 miles, each way. I have to allow 5 nites of motels (it is 2 days drive each way), along with food, gas, race gas, nitrous, and entry. I have to allow about $1,000 for the trip. Might not be quite that much, but have to allow for an emergency.
Anyone want to sponsor a race car?

2 days drive ?? Da hell you say lol I drove from jacksonville FL to peoria Il in 17hours and 25 mins (yea I timed it lol) and that was 1,045 miles 1 way, in a 5 speed, through mountains, and dun dun duhhhhhhhh NO CRUISE CONTROL !!!!!!!!! If I was rolling out for a short deployment I would totally be there in a heart beat, and I would be Glad to split the cost of a room with ya Charrlie, but its not in the cards for this young buck, not now anyways :)

There just needs to be more races in the South for us that live down here to take advantage of. Out of all the races on the East coast, there are only 2 that are in a reasonable distance for me to attend. There are no races that are a reasonable distance for guys that live in Florida or middle Georgia to attend.

Amen. We used to have the slant race at Valdosta during the mopar southern nationals but due to poor turnout they dropped it, track said they were losing money.

I hear you, Mike. But remember I am an old f*rt, now. I am 70, and just can't do a straight thru tow any more. I have trouble seeing good at night. Towing with a 4 cy 96 HP toyota pickup, at 60mph. Just not enjoyable, if I have to push.

I also did a slant six race at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds Ga. Had three cars show up, and two were mine.
The track will still do a slant six race. If some one wants to do it contact me and I will put you in contact with the owner. The deal we had was:
$10.00 per person (spectator price) admission to the track (track gets this money). They give us (slant six race coordinator) the tech cards. We charge whatever we wish, for race entry, and do our own purse/payout. We have our own staging lanes. He didn't care it we had 1 car or a 100 cars. I thought it was a good deal.

Yep, the problem with races in the deep south is that nobody shows up. Charlie did a lot of work on these and people did not come. I hope someone will try this again and succeed in getting a good turnout.

The Midwest and Northeast have similar problems. It just takes a critical number of people to commit to going, and build a following in that region, and someone who is eager/willing to organize and pound the pavement.

Rick Covalt almost singlehandedly got the M-D race going near DC where there hadn't been a race that far north or east ever (?). Now it is the biggest attended country-wide. Big thanks to Rick and his efforts.
