Okay Tuesday I'm gonna do the diesel flush trick on the Dart, then dropping the pan so I can clean the pickup screen out with some carb cleaner. I'm thinking I should probably pull off the oil pump too and give that a good cleaning, then pack it with vaseline and put it back. I also plan on cleaning the oil pan itself real good while it's off. I've got an oil pan gasket and all the fluids/filters I need, but are there any gaskets I need for the oil pump and/or the pickup screen? I don't wanna tear into it and realize I need a gasket or anything else that I have to wait two days to get. I figure I'll drain a quart of oil, put on a new filter, run a quart of diesel with the old oil for about 20 minutes, then do a normal change w/ new oil and filter. |

Have the pan or oil pump's gaskets ever been changed? If no then I would suggest buying a can or two of permenex gasket remover. Those gaskets can get VERY difficult and the permenex stuff melts em up pretty good. I had to soak my oil pump gasket for about an hour with the gasket remover just to get all of it off, the pan was the same way. So yes, to answer your question, you do need a oil pump gasket. |
