These posts were split from the East Coast Banquet thread so that the Rules Discussion can have it's own place in Racing Q&A while the Banquet thread itself can remain uncluttered in Event Calendar.

This is the place to discuss all rule changes for the 2013 season
.

I would like to Get this Crosstalk thing Discussed / Fixed.

It's happened to me twice now and I know others have has issues too.
I will bring it up for discussion.

Greg, good point to discuss. Crosstalk has seldom been a issue for us, but
I think we will just have to make it common practice to visit the tower each race and make sure they have it turned off for our race. I am sure they won't mind doing that.

Other issues to start thinking about:

1) How many races and where? Rain dates built in?
2) Buybacks. Lots of discussion in East and West about this. Best idea I've heard is to allow buybacks, but not allow points accumulation on runs after a buyback. In other words, get more people racing in the upper rounds and sweeten the purse, but only people who have not bought back can get points for their round wins.
3) More attendance points. Raise it from 1 pt for showing up to 5 or even 10? NHRA gives 10 pts for making the ladder for their eliminator/sportsman drags, as I understand it. I would like to reward people more substantially who make the effort to come. The 1 pt was really a tiebreaker when we had big turnouts, IIRC? Now we need to encourage more racers to show up. Or, we could do 10 pts for showing up for a weekend of racing, whether you stay both days or not?
4) Rainouts in general. This was a mess this year and affected later events. Ideas on how to deal with this?

Other issues to discuss??

I agree that a system for crosstalk should be put in place, at least for the race coordinators.

Thanks and see you in Feb!

Good to get the discussion started.

I believe at times the Request has been made to turn off the crosstalk.. Heck tracks have even said that if you dont want the crosstalk on then put an "N" at the end of your dial (which I have done) and they still screw it up.

That is why I believe we need to put a provision in the rules about this.. To make it fair and even for the folks who happen to have the faster cars and that wish to go rounds.

I am fine with a representative visiting the tower and asking it to be off, but truth is the tower people forget sometimes - They have a bad day, push the wrong button, enter the incorrect value in the computer, etc... That's why There needs to be a provision in our rules to Idiot-Proof the Issue.

I would be in favor of buybacks if it could be worked out, but speaking for myself I would be in favor of any round won receiving points. Points and wins are equally important to many racers. I think if buybacks were approved by the group working out the ladder might be the biggest challenge.

Greg I agree with you on a rule covering Crosstalk. If the track accidently turns crosstalk on the rules will state any affected rounds must rerun without question. That would be fair for everyone because it could to any of us.

Greg, when was the last time that crosstalk was an issue? When there were more delay box racers some insisted on crosstalk which really screwed everthing up. As far as I know in recent years it is assumed that everybody will run on a footbrake tree and that works out much better for everyone. There should probably be something in the rules to make sure this does not become a problem again.

At all tracks that have a buy-back racing program allowed, the racer that buys back in gets a shot at the purse and points just like the guy that doesn't buy back, if there is no chance for the person buying back in to do this, he/she has no incentive to do so. They could just time trial for free if they get put out of competition and accomplish the same thing without spending more money. The buy back racer needs to get something for their effort or I just see them as not wanting to do it once they realize they aren't going to get anything out of it.

This happened to me at Pittsburgh a few years back (probably when we last had a slant race there) then again at Bristol September 2012.

I specifically wrote an "N" on the window indicating the no crosstalk as per the announcements over the track PA that day. (at the Pittsburgh Race)

They still screwed it up.

The buyback person would still go for the purse, but I was suggesting they would not be allowed points for further rounds won.

I agree we need a simple rule for crosstalk screwups. I would be in favor of an automatic rerun if the crosstalk was on, period.

Lou could you elaborate on why you dont feel points should be included.

Is there any chance that we can get this moved to a "rules" discussion thread. If not I will start asking questions here too.

This would be the big challenge for me as a race coordinator. You have to keep this simple for me.

If we did do buy backs, are we expecting the track to give us the money? I'm not at all sure they will agree to that? Is it usually $20 (I think Mason Dixon is) Maybe they would split it with us?

I think this has to be all or nothing. All track and all races or none at all. Do all tracks allow this?

It could definitely play a large roll in a close championship. You could get knocked out by someone who has already lost once and thus not gain as many points.

Just thinkin out loud,
Rick
