Does anyone know where you can obtain a distributor like msd or mallory for a slant 6. This is for a race engine only. Is the stock dist. ok to use? How about it Doc what is the best?

You know, I don't ever think I saw a aftermarket msd mallory etc distributor for the /6. I know you can use msd boxes with the mopar electronic ignition distributor w/magnetic pickup, and I believe at one time there was a pertronix upgrade for the stock distributor, but I have never seen a complete ready bolt-on unit

Yes, there were some complete, drop-in pieces, but we're talking somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty years ago.

I know for certain that Mallory made a "YC" model distributor back then. It was a full mechanical dual-point with watertight seals for the plug wires in the dist. cap.

I suggest you could do better nowadays with a stock electronic dist. and an aftermarket box & coil on the order of an MSD unit.

Mallory shows a points and electronic distributor on their web site. They have a lot of different models so it's takes a little looking to find one for a slant six application. The advantage will be small or none over a well set up stock dist. If the Mallory features an adjustable mechanical advance, that may make it worth the extra $.

Well let me rephrase my statement then, I have never seen one for sale :)
*waits for someone to post link to store that has it* hehe. I'm happy with the chrysler electronic ignition system... might put a mallory or msd box in it in the future though just for the heck of it

Norm,

If you are interested in RPM, then I can tell you that the stock elec dist is fine for that, at least to a bit over 6000 RPM. Can't comment on timing accuracy, but they are pretty durable units.
