Trans in my daily driver is in need of rebuild. It is a 1975 Dodge Coronet 4D, approx 3780 lbs. Rear end ratio is 2.94 and tire size is 225/70/15's. I have a stock 1977-78 904 LU w/torque converter and the shift correction kit for it. The car will be seeing some towing use. Reccomendations ? |

If it is a 1977 model year trans, it will be non-lock-up,if 1978,it will be the worst trans (my opinion) ever made. Can you find any # on the drivers side of the oil pan rail? |

My parts manuals list it as a "79 LU too.Pay close attention to the pump clearances,0.001 taller pump rotors can be ordered. The sealing rings on the input shaft, and purchase a new torque converter. Also be carefull not to mix up the springs in the valve body, several of them look very similar. Check my post called "disection of a '78 trans" for more info. |
