Hello, my name is Caesar. I am the proud new owner of a 1966 Dart 270. it is a 4-door with a slant under the hood. I have some burning questions though that i need some help with. I am on the moparchat forum as well, but it seems they dont read stuff from the slant guys that often. here are the questions: 1). My car has the "270" tag on the rear quarter panel, but under the hood there is a slant 225, i know dodge made a 273ci small block 8, what gives? 2). What does A-body, B-body, and so on and so forth mean? what is my car? 3) Where can I get a manual (hard copy as in an actual book) for my '66? Kragen and other local parts stores dont have anything past '67 (just my luck). 4) How can i tell what kind of tranny i have? 5) Also question that is not as important now (because i have no time or money) how can i get my slant (with or without slant power) to run 12's in the 1/4? well that is it for now. Just to start it out, i just need some basic knowledge to start things out. I have been able to do all maintenance and repairs on the car without the manual, but to track down some electrical problems it would be helpful. Thank you. Caesar |

1)the 270 refers to a 'package' or trim level...if you look at your VIN tag you'll notice that it should start with a LH...mopar had different levels of trim, packaging, etc. L= low, M= medium, H=high, P=premium/special... A regular Dart would start with an LL and just have the basic trim and options, the '270' is the next level up and some of the 66 guys could tell you what changed, the 'LP' would be the Dart GT at the top of the line. Unlike some of the other cars during the era where they had engine 'callouts' on the fenders or hoods, some mopars didn't get those .... 2) A-body refers to Mopar's(Dodge and Plymouth mostly...) compact series of cars...these should include: 1960-1976 Valiant, 1961-1962 Lancer,1963-1976 Dart, 1970-1976 Duster, 1971-1972 Demon, 1973-1976 Dart 'Sport'. Other models can include(not a definitive list though): B-body: Charger,Coronet, Satellite, Road Runner,etc... C-Body: Fury, Newort,New yorker,'300', Polara,Monaco D-body mid-60's Imperials E-body: 1970-1974 Barracuda and Challenger F-body: Aspen, Volare etc.... 3)Swap meets, ebay, reprints at The Paddock, Year One, Layson's.... 4)If it's an automatic it's a Torqueflite A-904 (unless you have and old taxi or cop car...). If it's a manual is it a 3 or 4 speed? 5)Ask the 'Doc', you don't have to get into the 12's to have a 'fun' car though.... welcome a board! -DusterIdiot |

1). My car has the "270" tag on the rear quarter panel, but under the hood there is a slant 225, i know dodge made a 273ci small block 8, what gives? 270 is the model, Darts came as 170, 270 and GT model or "trim levels". 2). What does A-body, B-body, and so on and so forth mean? what is my car? A-Body is the chassis type, the Dart is an A-Body 3) Where can I get a manual (hard copy as in an actual book) for my '66? Kragen and other local parts storedon'tnt have anything past '67 (just my luck). Find a Factory Service Manual, they are out there 4) How can i tell what kind of tranny i have? Is it an automatic or a manual shift? 5) Also question that is not as important now (because i have no time or money) how can i get my slant (with or without slant power) to run 12's in the 1/4? Lot's of hard work and money to get into the 12's with a SL6, you will need somewhere around 250 HP in a 2800 lb car. DD |
