Does anybody out there in /6 land know where I can get the defroster outlets for a 63 Valiant? Need the medium blue preferably. The sun has taken its toll on mine and the deflector vanes are all broken off. Thanx.

You might try Wildcat auto wrecking in Oregon. They have a web site, I can't remember the exact address. Good luck

Here's a good trick: They are the same design/specs as lots of 70s-90s Mopar trucks and vans. I have them on my '92 Van and I've seen them on Rams from the 70s and such. The exact color may be the only problem, but you can dye them too. You can probably even buy them new.

You can buy them new, but I have only seen them in black and they are expensive.

They're easy to paint and hold paint very well, so a solid, used set should work fine.

I just replaced mine on my 63 valiant with a dealer part.

The part number and description from my invoice is
L716BX9 GRILLE HT 24028079.

This is the same part used in the Viper dashes as well as the mid 80s Vans and Trucks.

The pair cost $14.19.

They came in black and are only available in black. I ordered a pair about 4 years ago that came in the blue you are looking for. Back then they only cost about $5 for the pair. They didn’t last long in the Florida sun, so I needed new ones.

The bottom of the replacements are sort of a squareish trapezoid shape. The ones in your 63 are round. What I did was cut the bottoms off my 63 pieces and used epoxy to glue them to the new ones. I made the cut just above where the tube connects to the trapezoid shape.

I then painted them with some vinyl dye.

Good Luck,

John,

Good to know about the vents. Is the part number 24028079? I would like to put them in the database.

BTW, the black is the best. I was told (I think by Doug) that these have "carbon black" in the plastic and they resist breaking down in sunlight. My '63 Dart Convert has a red interior but for some reason the dash is a semi-gloss black and the vents are black. I have not seen another convert like this. They are still perfect and the car has been outside most of the time I have had it (in the California sun). So get black and paint them.

OK, I think I'll list them as a replacement vent with a note about the oval hose connection.

Thanx folks for the responses. I'll whip down to the local Dodge dealer and try the new ones. RMDV.

Let me know how it goes. When I list them I would like to include any necessary installation notes.

A photo or two sure would be nice ...
By the way, I just love the idea of having a Viper part or two on the old Valiant. Just like having Hemi spark plug tube seals, it's something to talk about!

Next time you see a 426 Hemi car at a show, check out the exhaust manifold washers, it's the slant six conical washer.

I'll see if I can get a photo. I don't have a didgital camera, so depending on how much film is left in the camera, it might take a while.
