Finally got to the track, with the new motor in my 66 Valiant, and no rain. Disappointed in the runs on motor only. By taking out the 225 and installing a 170, with a big cam, I gave away too much low end torque. The car just wouldn't 60 foot. Best motor pass was a 10.068 at 68.7 mph, 1/8 mile. Sixty foot was 2.284. Works pretty good on nitrous. On a 125 shot went a 8.42 at 80.6 mph with a 60 foot of 1.858 Changed from a 28 inch tall slick to a 23 inch, and went a 60 ft of 1.824 and a 8.280 at 81.6 mph I think with a little more "tweeking". this will go high 7's. |

Quote: "tweeking"
Definition of Tweeking - " The great temptation to add just about 50more HP to your nitrous shot, and the great debate that goes on in the mind as to whether there will be parts on the track under the car or a new national record!" Tweeking generally ends with a hole in one or more pistons. Go gettem Charlie!! |

Actually, I think I can get in the 7's by "normal" tune up methods, and learning how o "drive" the new engine. Don't think I need more nitrous to get there. BUT there is always that option. I do need more bite, and to try different jetting and timing. |

Yet!!! Remember, I'm just getting started. Only 6 passes on the motor. Three on motor, only, and three with a 125 shot.
And the best part is nothing fell out of it. |

Got a 3.91 in it. The only other gear I have available is a 4.89, and I think it is too deep. It might work for 1/8 mile with this engine, it didn't work with the old engine. But there is no sense in trying any thing deeper, without some suspension work, and maybe new slicks. PS: Car weighs 2540 without driver |

I have a 7 1/4 with 5.13's, I could throw in, but I don't think a 40 inch tire will fit. Used to run a track up in New York state, where they would probably work. I think it was Spencer Speedway in Williamson, ran 500 ft. |

Ha ha... as I recall, my stock 170 with 3.23 gears would get me about 68.7 mph in the 1/4 mile.... So I'd say you've already come quite a ways! - Erik |

Sounds like a good first result. Lots more development on your B'cuda, so you have to expect some tweaking needed on the car. Lou |

I'm satisfied for the 1st time out. However Andre at Edge converters, built that converter for use with nitrous (he asked if I was using nitrous) cause it sure don't work very good on motor. It needs the torque hit of the N2O. I remember I had the same issue, at Clay City, many years ago, when I first tried it. PS: Rained out again last night. |

I always had to run a lot of gear behind a 170... If it were not for running the 170 SL6 I would not have 5.13, 5.38 & 5.57 "pumpkins" in my center-section collection. Find the 170's redline and do the math... that will tell the story. DD |
