I faintly recall seeing a picture of an early slant with an alternator on drivers side. Does anyone have a picture of this or know any more specific info? Just curious about alternative alternator mounting |

Pierre, I am in the process of mounting a late-model Denso 50A 1-wire alternator on the driver side on my '64. Neat little alternator I got new on Ebay for $120 (search "mini alternator"). They are about $240 from Summit or similar. 5.5 lbs, size of your fist, and has V-belt pulley. I'll post pics when I get it on there in the next couple of weeks. I am making some simple aluminum brackets for mounts. I don't know where to get dr side brackets for the Mopar alts. Lou |

The marine version of the slants had the same set up, but good luck finding a place that still sells Chrysler marine parts.......I only found one place here in Seattle that still has or can get parts. |

Lou, Powermaster makes bolt-on 75A 1-wire, they are in the same case so they are bolt-on to our engines. Chrome too... for $160, the standard 3 wire being $120. But if your trying to save weight thats probably not the way to go... I bought a 200A powermaster GM case alternator that was supposedly bolt-on for early mopars according to their webpage but of course isn't. I made some of my own bracketry to mount it but the V belt pully it came with ate up my belt... it is a little deeper then the fan/crank pulley so the belt was sinking too deep into it. I got it machined so the outside diameter is a bit smaller, will have to try that. I have a feeling it was located where the powersteering pump would have been if the engine had that option. |

Pierre, If you look on the manifold side of your block, towards the front, under the water pump, you'll find the mount pad and tapped bolt holes for the alternator as it was first mounted in the early 60s. In Australia, the pad was used to mount a remote oil filter, probably because space on the other side was at a premium, due to right-hand-drive. The brackets for mounting your alternator there can be found on mid 60s vans and some trucks. I'm going that route on my '37 Plymouth because the frame rails and attached sheet metal get very narrow towards the front of the engine bay, the result being that there's not enough room for the standard mounting setup. ---Red |
