Ok my new motor is about ready to start. But what gas do I need for it? CR is 11.5 to 1 static with a 9.05 Dynamic. Can I run 100 Octane Sunoco or do I need higher octane? 110 or 112? (Both available close by) The actual cost difference between the two is not that much. But the 100 is unleaded and will not hurt my O2 sensor. The 110 is leaded and possibly can harm the O2 sensor, but some folks have said they run leaded all the time with no problems. Tell me what ya think! Rick |

It's going to depend on the cam, the centerline and how aggressive the distributor curve is...My last engine was 11.71 SCR, with a 9.2 DCR, I broke the engine in on 92 pump 10% ethanol 'super' and had no issues for break in and driving it around....I decided to up the ante for insurance and dropped a couple of gallons of 110 (about 1 gallon for every 5 in the tank)... never had a problem... so straight 100 unleaded should be OK. You won't be able to run leaded with the O2 sensor... it will stop giving useful readings after a few runs on leaded....(been there did that)...LOL Since my next engine will be EFI, I went and talked to my local petro vendor in town and was surprised that there are unleaded grades up to 104 for O2 sensor use, and 110 unleaded for non O2 sensor use available... (pails are not cheap!), once this engine is put together it will probably end up as 92 for street and 100-104 for race... with computer program swap of timing and fuel maps for street or race. You should be OK to run 100 for race with no issues...( looks like 260 GT plus unleaded is 104... but I would ask your local rep if it is OK to use with O2 sensor since they may have other non TEL additives that can foul them....) Good Luck. |

Thanks DI. I was thinking 100 should be Ok. I have 93 in the tank right now so I'll do my initial breakin with that. Then I'll go to 100 for racing. Rick |
