rebuilt the steering coupler on the 68 Barracuda some time ago, using a new cap, never could get the tangs on the cap to crimp properly to keep the cap in place, stumbled across this today http://www.ebay.com/itm/DMT-MOPAR-3-Ste ... 2218669587 |

I don't know who is making these now; however, a friend of mine in MI will be happy to hear they are still being sold! Maybe 10 years ago he came across a TSB about the problem with securing the coupler caps. The TSB said for the dealer to use these clamps. So he did a parts search and found one somewhere in TX and the other size in HI (there is a long and short version of the clamp). So he bought each one from each dealer. Each parts guy at the dealer had absolutely no clue as to what they were used for! Anyway, he had 500 of each size made up and was selling them at the Mopar Nationals and other shows as well as on a web site he did strictly for the clamps. He finally sold out to some other vendor at the Nationals as he couldn't find anyone to make another run. And that's the story behind the clamps - which work very well from watching his demos at the Nationals. |

I used to see these in junkyards here and there, and wished I had one for my duster since the coupler doesn't like to hold the top on the body anymore... |

I have used HD zip ties (2 of them, criss-crossed) to serve this purpose as well. Lou |

Looks like the Aspen coupler is a little worn out as the new refurbish kit top didn't clamp adequately... so it'll be the zip tie special, or I have some wire and spare columns with couplers I can make a spring clip like shown.... |
