Cobra is IRS, not a live axle. |

Sorry , it's from a mach 1 picture is regular axle, I just got the dimensions 57 to backing plate and 62 to mounting surface. so from what I researched it's almost 5 inches bigger than mine. Is that to much to make up with backspacing? Thanks JD |

You wont be able to get the tires in the tire well with just backspacing. You could narrow the axle...... The Desoto in the picture below has a 31 spline 8.8 that has been narrowed. It was previously located in my 65 Valaint where it was a perfect fit. You swap the long side axle for a short side axle and narrow the housing. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... s&start=15 |

Is there a short side axle in a mustang? |

Sandy's was an Exploder axle. The Mustang one will also need spring perches welded on. |

I think I can get the rear cheap but here in CT getting a rear shortened is expensive! When I hear prices that are quoted on the forum for work like this It usually costs twice or triple here unfortunately..... |

I'm with you Johnny. There is no such thing as a cheap machine shop where I live, despite there being a strong trucking industry and port in my town. |
