Post subject:  Windshield stuff

I have a 73 Dart and am taking on the fun job of taking out rust and trying to replace old seals and prep for paint(all without a garage or any covering, not to mention school, fune!). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows the removal/ installation process of the front and back windshield and what is needed, not to mention is it worth me doing it to get the rust/paint out since I am very, very limited on funds. Keep in mind the seals are ver old.

If the gasket is that old it will probably be worthy of replacement. That being the case, just cut the outer lip of the gasket with a utility knife slowly. Then from the inside of the car, start pushing up on the window and with a little elbow grease it will come out. Start pushing in the a corner, and have someone from the outside grab the window and pull slowly back.

Taking them out is relatively easy so yes its worth doing by yourself. But putting them in, I always take it to someone to do because I don't want to chance ruining a new gasket (they are kind of pricy...) and like the peace of mind of a leak-free guarantee.

The gasket ruining is a good point, should check prices on that. I've seen windshield trim replacements(semi-universal time) for around my make and year, but would anyone know where to get windshield gaskets for a 73 Dart(I'm guessing 4-door doesn't matter for this application, but you never know :D ). Thanks, oh, I'm going to check prices in my area, but what have been the costs that most get out of a winshield re-installation.

If memory serves me right I got my gaskets at yearone.com
As for prices, I can't be positive but I want to say somewhere between $50-100 for each. Too long ago to remember exactly. And that was for them coming to my house, not me taking the car to the shop.
