Reassembling the drive train in my 1970 D100 to drop back into the restored rolling chassis; it has a slant 6 backed by a manual 4 speed.
It has been a while since I pulled apart the drivetrain and I am wondering if there is a proper sequence to reassembling it for ease; the shop manual doesn't really give an order on how to put them together. The trick for me getting it apart was that my bell housing has the 2 internal bolts at the top that I remember were a PIA to get out, so I'm guessing there is a proper order to make those 2 bolts not as big of pain.
I'm guessing my 2 options are
1) bolt the new clutch and pressure plate to the flywheel, then attach the bell housing; not sure how easy it will be to get those top 2 bolts into the inside top of the bell housing with the pressure plate in place; or
2) bolt up the bell housing, then do the clutch disc and pressure plate in place which might be a hassle too.
Has anyone got any suggestions on the best order to reassemble this?

There is only one way this assembly goes together...

Depending on the ability of installing the engine with the bellhousing attached or not into the engine bay will
determine whether you can do this on the ground before installing the engine, or if you have to install the engine
first then install the bell,etc...

Either way... 11" clutch bellhousing

Put the flywheel on the crank and check the bolt hole alignment, once all 6 holes line up mark the crank and flywheel
so you can repeat this.

Remove the flywheel.

Install the bellhousing aligning the pins, then install the 3 bolts that are at the high hump of the bellhousing, tighten
as best as possible (it's a bit tight to get a torque wrench and socket in there properly).

Install the external bolts to the bellhousing/block.

Install flywheel. Easier to torque using an extension through the bearing retainer hole in the bell. Some people are paranoid and will loctite the crank bolts to keep them from coming loose under heavy duress. Unless you can install a piston stop, you may need to hold the flywheel with a flywheel lever/tool to keep the crank from rolling over While torquing.

Next you will install the disk and pressure plate (make sure the disc marking that say engine side goes toward the engine). use an alignment tool to hold and center the disk so you can
work toward installing the pressure plate bolts without juggling the disc too. Install all the bolts, then torque to spec in a star pattern to even out the load on the disc and plate... Stock can be installed as is, if running high rpm or possible repeated clutch dumps have led me to loctite these bolts as well...Flywheel lever will make it easier to hold the flywheel to torque bolts, and rotate it to install the other bolts...

Install the transmission next with the throwout bearing, install your crossmember, install your boots,linkages, adjust linkages, then install your covers...

Complete your installation of driveline, and engine hook ups (don't forget your motor mount fasteners).

I don't see any reference to centering/dialing in the bell housing?
