I am having difficulty in fitting the rear seat squab - the part you sit on. I cannot "hook" the squab to the anchors on the floor - I can't push the squab in far enough to anchor the hooks on the floor. What part of the seat should I fit first - the squab or the back rest? Thanks |

On my 64 you have to do the backrest first so it's bolted in. I used a small hydraulic bottle jack and some pieces of 2x4. 2x4 piece wrapped with towel against bottom of seat. Other 2x4 running forward until it hit something solid, bottle jack in between. That's also how I got the rear bottom cushion unhooked. |

Seat bottom first, make sure the 2 metal retainers that are welded to the floor are in good shape and not mangled. If they are bent and in the wrong position, you will never get it held down right. Once you get the 2 front hooks attached, then the 2 screws that hold the back of the bottom seat get installed. Then you can install the back! |

On my 65, you had to install the back first. Then, for the lower seat I would use an extension or screwdriver to push against the seat hook itself instead of trying to push the whole frame. |

I have always installed the seat back first, then the bottom. I just push really hard on the frame to get it to latch. True story- I once had a case I was arguing in the court of appeals where the prosecutor said that having loose rear seats was probable cause to allow the cops to tear my client's car apart looking for drugs. I argued to the court that my client had an older car and that people who own older cars and work on them themselves often have loose door panels or seats due to wear and tear or repairs and that having an older car was not sufficient probable cause to permit cops to search a vehicle. |

I put the bottom in the back seat after the upper cushion and frame. This is on the 73 barracuda, all f body's and the 64, 68, 69 A body's. I added rear retractable seat belts on the 64 and it pressed against the seat frame. I should have used a bottle jack for that install. Greg |
