I did a search and couldn't find this info, so does anybody know what size U-joint I will need when using the old 7.25" driveshaft and a new 8.75" rear? I understand that the size for each axis of the U-joint will be different. Thanks, Joe |

Chrysler basically used 2 different sized u-joints during the time SL6 engines were in production. The "small" version, with inner "C" clips, found on the 7 1/4 is called a 7260 u-joint. The larger version is the 7290. 8 3/4 axles used both types so you will need to measure to find the size on your replacement 8 3/4. There are special conversion u-joints made to fit small to large or visa-versa but truth is, your 7 1/4 driveshaft will be too long to mate to any 8 3/4 so change the drive shaft yoke to the needed size, when shortening it. THANKS GUYS! I lucked out and have the same diameter U-joint on each axis. Doc--you mentioned shortening. That is the next step. Is there a chart out there that shows driveshaft lengths? Never mind--found it with a Google search. Joe |
