I'm new to this forum, and new to 63 valiants.... BUT.. how in the world do you people service the distributor and fuel pump given their location?? there is very little room to access them, being stuck down right next to the inner right side inner fender... Remove the inner fender?

Naaaa. Just use a Sawzall and cut a great big hole in the inner fender. Then weld it back in when you're finished.

I think they are easy to access in the '63 valiant compared to the F-J-M bodies aspens / volare's and diplomats.

Sometimes I will jack the car up so I don't have to reach / bend so far down there to access the parts.

You service the distributor by removing it. It's fast and easy to do so; all you need is to bump the engine til the rotor is pointing someplace easy to remember (12:00, 3:00, 6:00, or 9:00), remove the 7/16" hold-down bolt and the small nut holding the wire to the coil, and lift the distributor out the engine. You can take it away to a workbench or table to replace the points and condenser, lubricate the advance mechanism, etc…or, better yet, do the HEI upgrade and never have to mess with the distributor again.

You replace the fuel pump from above, using an appropriate wrench. Removing the alternator and coil first gives you more room to work, if you feel you need it. Be advised that if your engine mounts have sagged out, there will be a lot less room than there should be to get at the fuel pump. Put in a set of the good engine mounts and never have to fret about them again (don't forget to put in a new rear/trans mount while you're at it).

Beyond that: Tune-up parts and technique suggestions are in this post, and safety/reliability/modern-traffic updates are described in this thread.

I've worked on several F-J-M with a /6, and they didn't seem all that bad to access.... Though by that time all were electronic ignition and not points systems so access wasn't needed as often.
My latest/6 is in a D150, though it's a bit of a reach, there's plenty of room around it for access
