| Post subject: | flex plate question |
Most of my "race" torque converters have 3/8" flexplate bolts. I usually enlarge the 5 /16 holes in the stock flexplate. I have a converter that has 7/16 bolts, and I don't think there is enough "meat" on the stock flex plate to go that large. I have read some different posts about using the small block flex plate, and egg shaping one crank hole. I have also read of people having issues with some aftermarket flexplates being too large in diameter and not fitting in the slant six bellhousing. I think this is with the "universal" style flex plate with multiple bolt patterns for the converter. Can any one tell me for sure, which flexplate will fit? either SFI or non SFI. Thanks. |

I have used the SFI SB V8 flexplates a few times and just drilled the crank bolt hole. They look basically like a slightly beefier/filled out stock flex plate shape but with the trapezoidal holes filled in. I've never used one of the "wheel" (full disc/circle) plates and do not know if those fit. Lou |

I Modify the LA / 904 Flexplate and Drill the Other Hole that is needed for the slant 6 whilst welding the V8 Extra hole Shut. |

I've used V-8 plates and just egged the one hole. I also have some of the Cox plates that had the hole welded up and redrilled. Both ways work fine. |

I indeed have used the "full wheel" flex plate and they work fine. They are much beefier than the stock ones by far. 440 source is where I get mine. They have SFI ones for @ $80 or the exact same SFI one without the sticker for @$40. Just grind out the one hole and go racing. |

Cool part. Thanks for sharing. This should be posted in the racing section. Greg |

Thanks, I was concerned that the larger diameter would not fit in the slant six bell.

Next question. Greg, do you have any of the adapter rings that allow the use of the late flywheel/fleplate on the early crank? Most of my cranks are the early ones, and even early stock flexplates are getting hard to find, and I don't think anyone ever made a "good" flexplate with the small center hole. |

I do Charrlie. Send me a pm I have never tested these with a flexplate i theory they should work but may need modified. I had these made ~2 weeks ago and price was quite a bit more than the first run I had made. Greg |

Received this today https://www.manciniracing.com/prwplsextduf.html Decided to get the SFI, flexplate, only a little bit more than the non SFI. Should be able to use this with either my Edge converter or FTI converter. Got the bolts also. Will need to check fit and adjust the one crank mounting bolt hole. Did I say I was retiring? |
