I found them in a JY today and they look remarkably similar to the A body disc spindles. Does anyone know if they will fit my '74 Scamp? I printed the disc conversion article and I plan to go back tomorrow to see if they match the article. The article doesn't explicitly say one way or the other. Thanks. |

They will bolt on. There has been something of a long-running debate as to whether this is a good idea because the spindles are not the same dimensions and result in different suspension geometry. After reading the arguement in favor of this swap on Bigblockdart.com, I am convinced that this swap is a safe one and probably an upgrade over the standard A-body spindles. |

Go to Bigblockdart.com. He has an article on that web site addressing the question.According to his logic, which starts from more experience than I have for sure, leads you to conclude the later spindles are actually better. Go read for yourself, and then decide. |

They will fit, but the suspension geometry will be completely wrong. It puts the suspension in a bind, and makes for interesting handling characteristics. You might want to keep searching the junkyards. try to fing 72-76 A-body spindles, but don't rule out 72-74 E-bodies either, if you can find one that is. Also, 72 B-body should also fit with no problems. 73 and later B-body spindles are taller and would do the same thing as the F-M-J bidy spindles, so avoid those like the plague. A couple of the mopar mags had tech articles a few years back on this very subject. I think Mopar Action had the more accurate one while High Performance Mopar said you could use the late b-body and f body spindles. As it turned out HPM was incorrect. So, if you can find an old backissue somewhere...... |

F/M/J spindles are a scant 3/8" taller (ie from the spindle centerline to the UBJ pickup point) than the standard 73~76 disk unit. Hypothetically, the height gives an increased caster gain across the suspension arc. HOWEVER how this could affect proper Ackerman is not fully known. Now for the good part. Yes they will work. I installed a set on a friends 69 Val about 25K ago and it's still goin' strong. To tell you the truth i was more concerned about the effects of bearing and balljoint wear than any kind of binding. But as usual, results not typical, YYMV, yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah. -JYH 69 Bakarudda, 73~76 underneath 64 Dart, roadracer/autocrosser... um yeah... it's stock... SoCal |

Guess what? When you buy one of the "budget" A-body dis brake conversion kits they will give you F/M/J spindles in the kit. I have seen this topic argued about for years and so far none of the people who clain it won't work have ever offered any physical evidence of a wreck or failure caused by using F/M/J spindles on anything. Factroy engineers have been quoted as saying not to do it. Wanna know why? One simple reason. Liability. Endorsing a parts change outside designed parameters opens the factory up to huge liability issues when some goofball wads his car up. |

here is a link to the discussion on this topic at moparchat. Read the posts from bill reilly (river) this is the best factual info I have ever seen on this subject. it is hard to argue with facts. Matbe bill could add that stuff to the tech page on this subject as well if we ask him. |
