This furnace design can melt enough aluminum to cast a cylinder head in a single pouring ! Now, all I need is the patterns :) I reckon that it would take me many months to learn how to make a decent set of patterns.

Does anyone know whether the '92 - '99 Toyota Supra head has the same bore centers as the slant six? I believe that the Supra bores (86 MM) are approximately the same size as the slant six.

I am thinking that the design of the Supra head could allow it to be adapted to the slant six as a custom head, sharing some existing Toyota parts such as camshafts and valves.

The pre-92 M Series Supra motor doesn't have the correct bore centers, does anyone know whether the later block/head has the same B.C. as the slant?

The Supra turbo motors had over 310 H.P. in factory trim - not too shabby, considering that these can be tuned for a lot more. The 24-valve head would make a slant run very strong.

I have a add for a over head cam slant 4-sale in a 64 val from the early 70's-with picture!!!!! It can be done.-------I will get up with you for a copy of the tech man.

A photo would be good, but what motor was used as a donor ? The 24-valve head of the Supra would be hard to beat today.

An overhead cam motor with the identical bore centers (4 inch I think) of the slant six is the starting point in the search for a donor candidate. Then, the task of modifying the slant block to accept the bolt/stud pattern of the donor head. Finally, the camshaft timing chain and gearing.

The Supra motor has a 5 degree or so cant, but the 30 degree angle of a slant six probably means that you'd have to cut the inner fenders to plumb the exhaust.

If you like the idea of a 24-valve inline six, the Supra motor as-is is a great motor. The M series have a reputation of overheating, but alloy metal erosion from poor cooling system maintenance is common, many owners have had 300,000 trouble free miles with them.

The new GM Vortec inline six is a motor that I'd like to swap into an older vehicle, but I don't know how the variable valve timing would perform without the computer controls.

The Lindsay books are interesting, but does anyone know anyone who actually casts custom parts in their backyard ? I thought that a slant bell housing that accepts newer five and six speed transmissions might be a reasonable project.

hehe...i say that a BMW M3 valvehead is superior...
343 hp, in europe 333 hp in states...with out any TURBO...AND WITH 86 mm bore. actually the engine is allmost same size than the 198 cid mopar...3.2 liters.

104 hp / liters ATMO. cool. well ihave been asking abouth a head gasket of that engine....but no luck.
i will try to get the info about the cylinder distance....

check the picks that i just downloaded to my site.
i have been thingin the same swap too, but theres more problems to solve than i would like to have...;-)

Respecting the VTEC-type technology of recent years, an ordinary 24-valve pent roof head is decent, turbo or not. With an aggressive cam and higher compression the Supra motors make very good output, but the '92-99 version is as out of reach for me as is the German spec BMW!

I doubt that any head can be adapted to the slant.

Tim and Will,

I would bet that this ad for the OHC Slant uses the stock 12-valve head w/mods for the OH cam and drive belt. I have thought a little about doing this myself, although it might not be worth the work.
