First, the Holley 1920 Carb on my slant 6 225 has sprung a leak from the fuel bowl after being stripped down and cleaned and re-assembled! I replaced the fuel line from the pump to the carb. All new gaskets. But the fuel is seeping through the fuel bowl gasket. Have I screwed something up in the reassembly, is there something else I have set incorrectly on the carb?! Help!

Also I have been trying to tune the slant 6 225. New dist., alternator, points, finally achieved correct dwell angle but can't get the enging to run anywhere near the 5 degress BTDC in book. Obviously worn timing chain, so does the whole engine need a rebuild?

Thanks

Your fuel bowl gasket is probably made of cork rubber. You need to be very careful with it and make sure that it is seated properly in the carberator body. You have to TIGHTEN those screws! On my carbs, the tabs on the cover are actually slightly bent from tightening. Don't go too crazy, just make them as tight as you can with a regular screwdriver. You definitely don't want fuel spilling down onto your hot manifold!

--------------

The surface has to be completly clean and the gasket must be well centered. Try tightening it more.

Who is to say that the mark is correct, did you check for true TDC?

I would advance the timing until the engine starts to ping then back-off at little. This can be 10-12 degrees of advance on old worn-out slants.
