I am having an impossible time locating an aftermarket radiator for this car. I can't seem to find anyone who can cross reference it for me. The radiator ID number is 2898067. I would think that somebody could find out who makes an aftermarket replacement part, but it's become quite a chore.

This is the only thing keeping me from having this car running. I plan on fully restoring it granted I can get the cooling problem fixed. Any and all help is vastly appreciated. Thanks!

First, the radiator you have is a 22" out of a '68 A-body (Dart, Valiant, Barracuda). The original radiator for you car would be 2524956. It's possible it may be another of three #s but the first four digits of the seven digit # will be 2524xxx and could be 19" or 22" wide. I have a '66 V-100 that when I bought it already had a replacement rad. that didn't fit well. The brackets on the tanks were different, could only get top two or bottom two bolts in, not all four. I found an original for a '66 and had a new core installed. I cost me almost as much as a replacement but it fits well and retained the original look. If yours has four bolts holding it in, look to see if two are new redrilled holes. If they are then probably only a pre-'67 will bolt in like original. If you don't care about originality, then a post-'66 should go in using the redrilled mounting holes. Some of this I based on assumptions because of the changes made between '66 and '67 model years. Anyone know for sure?

The bottom neck on the one in my '66 also curves up toward the motor. Top tank shape is different than the later ones too. I never noticed about the mounting holes though. :shock:

I don't know what the replacement was in my '66 that someone jamed in. This weekend I'll measure the '66, '68 and junker '73 to see if holes are different. Dennis, Putzie came by and fixed my exh leak on my d-150. I couldn't get my fat a-- in close enough to fix it. I gave him a super six intake and a big block MP .509 lift cam so he was a happy little slant sixer when he left. I held out the matching lifters so I could lure him back to do a for a few more chores. He loves to spin wrenches.

As far as the round top tanks, every pre-70 non 26" radiator I've seen has the round tank. Post-69 were all square top.

I have a '67 with an original, it has a round top tank. I am going to be replacing mine iwth a rad from a newer car that has a recirculating catch basin, I am sick of putting coolant in at ever fill up. :)

Wow, thanks. How did you know about the numbers?

Does anyone know what's different about the 1965 and 1966 models that would make the 1966 radiator too big? I called the guys at radiator.com and they said that it wouldn't fit unless I wanted to drill and cut. The 19" vs. 22" size difference makes me wonder if it will actually fit unless 1966 models had monsterous radiators that were later sized down with more cores than the 1965 models.

I called a Chrysler sevice center and was basically told, "Good luck." After reading these replies, I went outside and looked at the radiator. It doesn't have any redrilled holes, so apparently the 1968 A-body radiator fits right. Is there a difference in the amount of cores that the 1965 Valiant would have as opposed to the 1968? I know that the 1965 is just impossible to find. I've found three places that have them used. I would like to replace it with an original one, but for now I need to get the car working.

There's a bunch of web sites (radiator.com, radiatorplus.com, carradiator.com) that carry a 1968 model.

One last question: should I worry about the number of transmission lines coming into the bottom of the radiator? I have three right now, and I'm not sure if this changed with time of if that's just a consistent thing with pre-69 A-body models with 225 engines and automatic transmissions.

Thanks for all the help everyone. This car may live again yet. I'll post pictures online somewhere when it's done.

I have had several radiators redone and they just get a replacement core (three row if you want) and then use the top and bottom tanks from the old radiator. I was told to keep any old tanks because they can't be found and are probably worth $100 by themselves. The one for my '63 Dart was done about a year ago so I would expect that cores are still available.

'66 radiators aren't bigger than '65, it's just both years there were 2 sizes available. 19" and 22" which were usually for A/C cars. The mounting brackets on each rad. were changed so they both could bolt up to the same rad. core support. B, E, and C bodies had different core supports for the different width rads. My '66 had a replacement radiator but the wrong one. I don't know what it was supposed to fit but it was too tall and could only get 2 bolts in. It may have been for an F-body or a newer A-body, I don't know. If the '68 rad. you have now fits can a radiator shop recore or repair it? Or make a few notes with measurements and hit the junk yards, may be one there in good condition. If you have A/C maybe a 22" is what you need but a 19" may work. 8 years ago, I had a '70 Sport Fury GT with a 440-6 engine. This car came with a 22" rad. It was non A/C but still with that large motor it never ran hot here in FL.

I have actually swaped parts from year to year on my radiator.

I have a 63 that had a large split in the top tank when I bought it. I had the tank repaired but it only lasted a couple of months.

I found a radiator in a 65 and pulled it. I had the radiator shop use the brackets and bottom tank from my 63 and the top tank from the 65. They put in a 3 row core.

I live in florida and haven't had a cooling problem since.
