Hi Gang,
I just bought a front disk brake setup from a 1972 Dart (w/ 4" bolt pattern) to put on my 1966 Dart (w/ 4" bolt pattern). I recently replaced my lower ball joints with ones from PST about 6 months ago and want to know if I can use them instead of the ones from the 1972 disk brake assembly. The ball joints look swapable (late night eyeball method) but the actual shape of the metal is slightly different. Is this just a cosmetic difference? Also, would I be able to use my existing (new) wheel bearings or do I need to get new ones?

When I bought new lower bjs for that same brake system, there were different parts for disc and drum brakes, and the disc ones had a tag "do not use on drum brake spindles". So, I would guess, no. I have no idea on the bearings as I just bought all new ones when I swapped over.

The difference with the lower balljoint are the mounting holes, the drum brake balljoints ahve 1/2 holes, the disc brake mounting holes are 9/16.

The wheel bearings for the 9 inch drum are smaller and will not swap, I think the 10 inch ones will but need to check the bearing catalog to be sure.

Hi,

Here is my dilemma. I ordered a pair of lower ball joints from Year One and the right-side one had the correct 9/16 inch holes for the bolts. The left one was exactly the same except it took the 1/2 inch bolt so this was no good. I ordered another one from year One (it's a Federal Mogul part) and I was again sent the wrong one. So, I decided to order one from Firm Feel (this time a Moog) and it was again the wrong part, same as the other ones. Firm Feel was very helpful. It would not do them any good to order another one as the wrong part will probably be sent to them again.

I keep asking for a left hand lower ball joint for disc brakes for a 1971 Dart even though it is going on a 66 Dart. I assume that this is the correct part to ask for.

Does anyone know where I can order one? Do you know of any smaller operations where I can ask a person directly who has the part in hand and can measure it and tell me that that is the correct one?

I'm 0 for 3 so far and this is the last part I need to do my disc brake conversion.

Thanks,

Tom
