i ran an ignitor kit in my 318 swinger with a msd box and it ran great. without the msd it started and ran no better than properly adjusted points. in fact, the only thing i can say about the ignitor is that there is no need to set and replace points and it was truly a simple swap. long term reliability? i've run the ignitor for about 8 months now with no hassles. i have all the parts to swap in chrysler eis but have been too lazy to do it after fixing everyone else's cars all day.
i do not agree that any electronic setup should be considered without and electronic regulator. they just do a much better job than the point-type system and an ignition pickup needs full power at all times to be effective. it will work, but not that well.

Stock drop in replacement regulators from Wells (get them at Autozone) are electronic even for the older one field wire alternators.
