Has anyone ever tried both the Offenhauser 2 by 1 intake (2 Holley 1 barrels) and a 4 barrel intake for power and mileage differences? What were they like and which would you choose for a street / strip performance Slant? I was thinking about getting one, but don't know if it would be better than the 450 Holley 4 bbl setup I already have. There are no emissions controls on the car, and it'll be used with a manual transmission.

The 4 bbl is the better set-up, hands down, just because the 1bbls are crap. (so two of them is double trouble)

The offy dual 1 bbl looks neat and runs pretty good when the carbs are working right but that is easer said then done.

I have run both. On a mild/medium motor, the 2X1 gives comparable mileage to an edelbrock 500, but better than any Holley 4bbl I have tried. I'm pretty much with Doc here. On a built motor, the 2X1 manifold and small carbs just don't flow enough air. I had these on my '64 motor at first and it barely revved past 5000 - ran low-mid 15s. With my well-tuned Edel 600, I got just as good mileage, and got her down to 14.30s.

So, for cool factor and on a milder motor, the 2X1 is fun, but for serious performance don't bother with it.

Lou

I just got done divideing the plenum in my offy manifold I'm using a 600 edelbrock mounted sideways the theory is that it will run like two two barrels hopeing for smoother idle and better throttle responce I'll post when I get it back together. Bruce Johnson

I got one of my 2X1 intakes from Barry Harrison. He also had one that had 2 BBD's on it. There is enough room to just open up the carb mount and redrill it for the BBD's. He had his car deep into the 13's with the BBD's and he said it worked really well on the street that way.:)

The 2X1 intakes do look a lot cooler hanging on the garage wall than a 4bbl Offy.

There's an idea - modify the 2 by 1 manifold to run 2 BBDs! I wonder what mileage and around town driving would be like.

My 450 Holley gets 14.5 mpg, and my old stock / lightly modified /6's would get 17-19 with a BBD.

Anyone ever tried building / running a 3 by 1 intake with 3 1 bbl holley's?

Maybe someone should ask Martin of Sox and Martin what it was like to throw a slant down the track with 6-1barrels bolted to the intake ports on the head and using 6 individual 'tubes' hanging off the sides for their slant induction and exhaust... Somewhere I have a photocopy of this set-up from an old 1967 'rod' magazine....

I have often wondered how a 2x1 manifold would work with two Holley/Weber progressive two-barrels. I thought it might offer better distribution than a standard 4-bbl. manifold, though it would probably require a fair bit of tuning to get it right. But, if set up right, it should give good low-end and high-speed performance. At least it does in my mind.

I hear the dual Webers work just fine, below is one set-up I know of that has a happy owner.
Pro Line Fuel has this kit, here is the link:

With two two barrels, I would expect better distribution, and better performance with the 2x2 barrels. Man would that be cool!
