1974 valiant/auto choke

I noticed at one point my butterfly valve wasn't closing. When I forced it open I realized the choke lever thing that increases the idle was knocked loose and had been in the way. It was hanging from the butterfly valve. WHERE DOES IT GO? I would love to have easy starts again. 10 minute starts are no fun. I figured it somehow attaches to the idle cam (or whatever it's called....thing you push on and your car revs up) but it won't reach to securely hook onto anything. physically doesn't seem to fit anywhere! I've looked at tons of pics on the web and on posts and they aren't the same setup so I can't see where it goes or how it fits. I looked at my friend's '72 scamp but it wasn't the same. Can anybody help? Much appreciated

My guess is that this is a Holley 1945 carb.
Go to this link and see if your carb looks like this, we need to figure-out what you have:

That looks about right. Not enough for me to see exactly where it goes....but that's the closest pic I've seen so far. Must be it

You may want to read through this article to see if there is a better view.

Basically, one end of the link rod should hook to the choke flap lever, the other end slips through the slot of the fast idle cam.
Look at the ends of the link rod closely, sometimes the very end will break-off and then it will not go back together.

That article I think shows a different carb, but I get the idea. On my lever it has a few angles, but the "U" shape is at the very end. Looks like you may be right. It could have broken. It doesn't reach the idle cam w/o straining on it and forcing it. I guess I should check junkyards unless I can think of a way to jimmy rig it. I'll look more closely when I get a chance to verify that.

It's not broken I'm pretty sure. The ends are finished smooth. There isn't an open hole like in the pics you provided on the idle cam. There is one but it's being used by a long spring. The "U" shape at the end of the arm has scratch marks inside indicating it hooked onto a lever or something rather than in a hole. Problem is I would have to open the butterfly valve all the way and pull back the idle cam a little to make it fit. Doesn't seem like it would do much good if I had to do that. Have you seen this before?

Ok, duh I can't hook the latch on because the idle cam is missing. Looks like I'd better find one
