I am undergoing the massive project of removing all of the useless wiring from the SCC (which no longer funtions/is bypassed) under the hood of my '87. Ive already pulled more than 20' of wire out from the original harness (i am using a wiring diagram so i dont pull anything important ) and i have many more feet to go. The more i look at it the more i want to get rid of the fusible links in the ignition wiring and replace them with a fuse box. I know fusible links are more of a "slow blow" and can handle short spikes in voltage while a fuse will blow...but id like to make the switch. So my questions are what amp fuses to replace the links with? I have 5 fusible links i want to replace:

1) Ign. Switch to batt/alt output (red wire) - Orange link

2) Ign switch to batt/alt output (pink wire) - orange link

3) Main Alt output to batt + (black wire) - Black link

4) Batt/alt output to light switch (dk blue to red wire) - dk blue link

5) batt to hazard flasher (black wire) - orange link

Here is what i have "guesstimated" for fuses...tell me if im off.

1) 30 Amp

2) 30 Amp

3) 100 Amp (i have a 100 amp alt)

4) 50 Amp

5) 30 Amp

Opinions?

-Aaron

Does anyone have any literature that says what amp ratings orange, black, and dark blue fusible links are?

I guess i can just start with low amp fuses and work up to a fuse that doesnt blow if i have to---i shouldn't have any electrical shorts, but in my process of tearing out the SCC and associated wiring..who knows.....

My '65 Dart has a relative simple wiring harness, with only one fusiable link. When the lights, turn signals, heater, wipers and radio are on, it only draws about 15 amps.

You will need to figure out the current draw for your system and then select a fuse with the next higher rating.

Just an update on the route i ended up taking.

I used a 40 amp circuit breaker between the alternator and the battery, the rest of the fusible links (headlight switch, hazard flashers, and two ignition switch) i ran from a fuse block with 25 amp fuses. I should have pics in the next day or two if anyone wants to see my not-so handywork
