Now that I know I haven't got a hot rod, maybe you guys would be so kind as to give me some advice. First of all, what can I expect as far as total HP from some simple bolt on modification (intake/exhaust, carb, electronic ignition). I believe my engine has 145 with the stock 1 barrel. I'm thinking that since I want an everyday driver, I may be better off to keep the 225 and spend the money (that I would use on a v-8 conversion) on suspension and engine upgrade. Secondly, what is the biggest carb I can go with the stock cam, pistons, etc. (2v or 4v)?
Thank you for helping this Mopar rookie.

with the stock cam, exh. manifold I'd recommend nothing more than a healthy 2bbl...you could go with a 4bbl, but that would kinda be like over-feeding a fat kid. With 2.5" single exhaust or 2.25" dual exhaust, 2bbl carb, electric fan, K&N air filter, Pertronix electronic ignition conversion, hi-po ignition coil, and header(s) you'd probably see 120-140hp to the wheels and much better throttle response. Your car, in stock trim, probably only puts 65-90hp to the wheels. The 145hp rating you gave is at the crankshaft...there is a decent amount of power lost through the drivetrain. Good luck with it!

The 390 Holley 4bbl is the biggest carb I'd run on a stock Slant, and that should work pretty well.

The holley 390 will be fine on a stock slant, it may need to be down-jetted though...
